Needless to say I am brand new to this type of thing....I've done everything in the tutorial for hammer 3.4 and when I get to the section where it says I need to do something in the compile setup....I can't locate it.....there is no normal or advanced setup....there is no run or whatever....can someone explain what is going on??

Run your mouse over all the tool bar icons to find out what they are.
The one you are looking for looks like 3 small grey circles.
Click that and the Compile Options will appear.

Alternately, hit F9

When I go through the hammer configuration setup and using their help guide, it gets to the compile setup and I can't click the icon you stated because it is greyed out and hitting F9 takes me to a screen that is asking if I want to save at that point. Initially when I first get into the hammer editor I go to the options at the top left part of the screen and that takes me to a screen that displays general, 2d, 3d, textures, game configurations, and build programs and using their guide the last thing I have to do is do the compile setup....cannot find that.....Frank
