Hellow TWHL, if you remember my last thread on statistics from the US well nevermind. Here are some new ones. According to Wikipedia:
35% of US high school students were currently sexually active and 47.8% of US high school students reported having had sexual intercourse
A 2008 study by the CDC found that an estimated 1 in 4 sexually active teens contracts an STD. The same study found that, among those who were infected, 15% had more than one STI, and 20% of those who said they had only one sexual partner were infected.
teenage pregnancy is 2 to 10 times more prevalent in the United States than in other similarly developed countries
On blowjobs (pretty popular too):
half of all 15- to 19-year-olds have had oral sex, with the percentage rising to 70% by the time they turn 19
Thought this was funny:
"There is a widespread belief that teens engage in nonvaginal forms of sex, especially oral sex, as a way to be sexually active while still claiming that technically, they are virgins," says study author Laura Lindberg
I don't get this part:
Of anal and vaginal sex, 14% believed you could engage in the former and 12% said you could participate in the latter while still remaining abstinent.
One in four women in America who had sex during their teenage years will have a baby before they are married...Of all women, 16% will be teen mothers
18% (almost 1 in 5) of teen girls were infected with Human PapillomaVirus
Of seniors in high school, 74% of girls regret sexual experiences they have had
Of women who had sex for the first time as teens, 30% divorced within five years, and 47% divorced within 10 years of getting married. The divorce rate for women who delayed sex until adulthood was far lower: 15% at five years, and 27% at 10 years. Researchers believe "that the early sexual experience leads to the development of behaviors or beliefs that promote divorce.
More than one fifth of teens have sent sexually suggestive text messages or nude photographs of themselves online. Teens who photograph or film themselves or receive photos of others, known as sexting, can be charged with child pornography.
Experts say that sexting poses a serious problem, partly because teens do not understand that the images are permanent and can be spread quickly. “It does not click that what they’re doing is destructive, let alone illegal.” “Once they are out there, it spreads like a virus,” police say.
...sexual minority youth (e.g. homosexuals) were significantly more likely than other students to report "having been or gotten someone pregnant (15% vs. 4%)
Check out these fail parents
Less than half of parents with daughters under 18 talk to their girls about how to say no to boys, and about half talk to them about contraception. While 78% of parents believe that their daughters can talk to them about any topic, only 54% of girls believe they can discuss any topic with them.
Also, according to the CDC, one in ten teens will be physically abused between the grades of seventh through twelfth
Humans never cease to amaze me.

Nothing wrong with sex if you're responsible about it. 16 is the legal age to have intercourse in the UK and I think that's a pretty good system.

People are stupid about sex and get their partners pregnant and they cheat and spread STIs, but for the most part sex is just really good fun and I laugh with pity at people daft enough to remain abstinent.

USA is fucked (no pun intended) because of their shitty sexual education.
We have very little problems here in Sweden due to our quite thorough sexual education. I've yet to meet someone under 20 who is pregnant.

USA's sexual education has been poisoned by christian standards. If you just tell kids to stay away from sex, which they won't obey anyway since it is a natural urge (which has been integrated into us for a reason I might add. Without it where would we be today? Most likely extinct.), and they actually go and have sex, then they will have no idea what they are doing and you've got yourself an epidemic of STDs.

Our seventh grade class got talked to about sexually trasmitted diseases and teen pregnancies. It wasn't mostly about not having sex, we had three ways to not get pregnant.

1. Don't Have Sex
2. Use Condoms
3. Pull it Out

In European countries sex is treated differently. It's not a 'bad' thing or a thing to be avoided, it's a completely natural thing... Which it IS.
Here, it is a thing to be desired, it's something we must do because it's such a taboo thing for kids to do, like smoking and drinking. Parents don't teach their kids anything about sex other than to not do it, and that is just moronic advice given the attitude that kids have.

They definitely don't teach that as standard stuff. Either he had a teacher who should never give sex ed again, or he's making it up.

QFT.

Thankfully tho, more and more people are coming to realize that science > religion, thank god.

Also btw, i think dimbark forgot some other standard methods of birth contorl:
1. don't do it
2. wrap it up
2a. full body condom
3. pull it out
4. CENSORED
5. practice gay

Yes you do. None whom I've ever met suffer from any psychological disorder, nor any lighter forms of mental suffering due to them having sex during ages 15-20.If anything they've got better confidence.

Perhaps it affects kids mentally if they are taught that it is bad. Perhaps then they will feel shame or disgust causing them to feel depressive. That would never have happened if they didn't say it was bad in the first place, which it isn't. Telling kids that sex is bad is wicked! Sex has nothing but positive effects if you keep it safe, and more importantly voluntary.

Doesn't seem quite right to me.
Also, I'm guessing that they are in the age-range I mentioned earlier (around 15-20), when it is quite natural to think that way due to hormones. They will slowly grow out of it.

They are all 20 or older. (up to 30)

They all had sexual experiences under the age of 15.

Im not denying what you said and I do agree it shouldn't be presented as it is mostly now. But sex at an early age can affect people in one way or an other, especially if in an environment where something about it is or is not accepted.

Oh, I thought we were talking 15+.
Pre-15 doesn't seem like a good idea to me either. You aren't developed enough at that stage, mentally that and even physically for some.

If you were to ask me where I draw my line I couldn't tell, we are all different. But most of us seem to be ready if we are older than 15.

It seems we agree then?

QFT. It makes them feel fucking awesome.

I think the fact you hang around 10 weird perverts reflects more poorly on yourself than sex.

Note: By early age I am talking 15-20, the age range myself and most of my friends became sexually active.

Seems to me everyone outside the US thinks that the US has become idiotic when it comes to sex, but the reality of course is that we used to be idiotic when it comes to sex and are slowly becoming less idiotic as science advances and knowledge spreads.

We are an isolated place with the exception of Canada and Mexico, cultural change can happen slowly here. Hence why we're still so homophobic. Hell, seventy years ago it wasn't OK to be black here.

Pointless thread is pointless.

Let's not forget to be less ignorant, learn to be reasonable, respect and love for the others. This is such a simple advice that I find hard to accomplish, but we must somehow try to aim at it.

Science and religion? This is such a complex subject that so many people know they are sure what they're talking about...

Bruce always has a simple solution.

As for Science and religion, you need to understand some things and live trough other to really understand and get your own meaning of what religion means to other and to your self.
There is a good movie about this, dont remember the name, but the scene is a black man with a bible talking to a drink addicted doctor.

All of what was written here is present in a lot of countries, not just US. I dare not talk about what I've read and seen on this topic in England.

Thing in the end is, you can always blame the parents.

I've had friends visit the south of USA. The stories they told when they came back were frightening. I wouldn't say "dark ages", but they certainly seem to be about a hounded years late, and in some matters even longer. The only thing they are up to date about is weapons.

Dismissing evolution in school as superstition and embracing the bible as fact, condemning sex before marriage and practise open racism and homophobia.
I'm glad it isn't as bad in the north.

Obviously they haven't become stupid, I never said that. It is slowly getting better. You can tell by the increasing number of non-believers in the country.

Closing thread before it gets out of hand. There's a reason why we discourage discussion of religion and politics - it's almost impossible for those topics to be the subject of a civilised discussion on the internet.
