Here are some screenshots of this zombie infestation idea I was working on (they are a bit big but hey), and until I can find someone interested enough to carry it on and make the zombie models etc I so need, it remains unfinished experimental stuff:

The Industrial Area

The Abandonned Office/Storage Areas

Car Park Area/To Wharehouses and Industrail Area

Subway 1

Subway 2

Especially the first one looks very good. The last two look decent but they could benefit from a bit more textures, like a trim texture for the stairs and a different ceiling texture. Except for that, really good-looking.

Self-made textures bytheway?
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-09 10:24:51 UTC Post #31761
Yes, well, most of them. Some of them I must admit were ripped from other wads though.

I agree, I dont actually like some of those screens, I just havent yet took new screens. I shall, and I'll post the links in a bit.

(p.s. the first map screen was loosely based on an image I found on the Abandonned Places website - I thought it was cool and half-life possible so I mapped it)

Always good to have inspirational pictures at hand. I like the architecture and the lighting, it fits pretty wel together. And so do the textures.

Mmh, the screenshot link I hadn't seen yet. I find the HL textures not fitting with the rest. Some custom textures for them would make that area look a lot better.
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-09 11:36:23 UTC Post #31775
thats great looking. speaking of horror, my tutorial on it may come out if Andy likes it. What a coincidence.

I like your last picture, withthe broken subway, the walls look awesome.

Great lighting, make some zombies around the corner in that dark area and it'll be great.

im willing ot model a zombie. but i cant garanteu it will look good. never really modeled a humanoind thing. but i first gonna finish the knife. and it looks very good. btw shoudl the zombies be a replacement of the hl zombies ore completely modeled and animated zombies, because the second would take a lot more time!

Nice last screenie (architecture-wise). Not too keen on the stairs. They're a little high and the texture's a bit flat.

Posted 20 years ago2004-06-11 13:12:42 UTC Post #32378
you could put some abandone cars in the car park, that would look cool. I think you can download the prefabs somewhere.
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-11 13:24:17 UTC Post #32380
i say you go all out and try to make 3 or 4 screenshots that look amazing, then try to lure model people and coders
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-11 13:58:01 UTC Post #32395
wiht those screenshots im willing ot modle anything for that :D

Posted 20 years ago2004-06-11 16:54:27 UTC Post #32467
I must admit some area's still look pretty empty and flat. It'll still need some work but it looks promising to me.
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-11 17:58:07 UTC Post #32478
I like it, especially subway 2.
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-11 18:00:02 UTC Post #32480
hmm, i think the flat thing gives you a feeling of a abandoned place.
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-11 18:02:20 UTC Post #32483
If you put a zombie in there named Loffe, ill give you a hug.

Some other viewpoints

1 2

Anyway, thank you all for your positive input, this has given me the kick up the arse in terms of motivation...

The idea is something that I was working on occasionally, I called the mod 'Lifeless'. (I guess you can say it's a play on the title Half-Life).

Its basically your typical zombie infestation, however, a heck of a lot scarier. Instead of being literally told where you have to reach in the map, you have to choose yourself. You have to survive, find things that may help, see if there is any firearm dropped by maybe the corpse of a mangled policeman etc. Are there too many zombies to deal with? Why kill them all? Just barricade them off! (The Abandonned Office/Storage Areas has moveable bits of junk to help prevent zombies from bursting into the room - It also has a bottle of beer!)

The wharehouse area for some reason I called 'Grunge Core Indo', I still dont know why though.

And yes, I would love to have something of a team! Lots of Zombies, lots of!

so you want me to model a zombie??? wouldnt be to hard, but i need to knwo how they need to look. maby post a picture of a zombie here so i got some reference.
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-12 13:10:28 UTC Post #32685
Well the screenshots look awsome, I have some Idea's to make it creepier. First thing, that is wayyyy to light, if you going to have zombies you have to have them come out of the dark! And this may involve coding (Im not sure if you would go this far), but make a static radio noise when they are around - my friend says they have something like that in Silent Hill 2. Oh yeah and use... whats his name ... w/e's Hammer model :)
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-12 14:42:38 UTC Post #32723
...I'd be more than happy to get some zombie model efforts, but bare in mind, there is not just one type of zombie in the mod, but plenty of different looking ones. Also, the map is way to light because sometimes it is not always about the dark being menacing. You know sometimes it may be more shocking seeing whatever the situation is in a bright light.

I sort of understand what you mean with the static noise, but you see, you might not even know that a zombie is lurking around near you and you are not even aware until it grabs you etc.

In the meantime heres some screenshots of my latest area:

the silent hill hthing is a radio u pick up that makes a static noise when enemies are nearby.

These latest screenshots are really nice. Looks like something out of the splinter cell game, and that game had the best graphics out of all. It got an award for that.

Cool another abandoned-places.com fan? This website is the bhong!
When is saw those screenies of yours I first thought 'hm, seen this before?'.
The last four shots are the best, yet. Most of the upper ones are too empty and the lighting constrasts are too strong.
Those metal bars contrution in the middle of the room looks too clean. Make it dirrrty! ;)
What about r_speeds?

UPDATE SO FAR

Well as you can see, I have now changed the mood of my latest addition. It's a heck of a lot more gloomy this time, and I have added an extension to another area. The place is full of pipework etc.

Nice! Very good Jahzel!
The lighting rocks.
Three things I'd change:
1. The connection between the hallway on the second image and the room on the first should be less abrupt. Put a door or at least some pillars on the walls.
2. Omit all those old HL textures. Everybody who knows HL at bit will immediately be reminded of it. The just don't fit the abience.
3. Make the bright hallway even brighter and add some glows to the lamps. This looks cool.

wow, they all look sooooo good.
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-14 23:22:08 UTC Post #33461
How did you make fog like that?! Ive been wanting to do that for a long time!
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-14 23:28:52 UTC Post #33462
Do a remake of the basement from House on Haunted Hill! Best horror movie ever, next to The Ring of course. Oh man, if you made the basement of haunted Hill, I'd download it. That place is friggin creepy man. And if you DO make it heres some ideas for it:
-random sounds of terror (example thehorror3.wav) or you could use some of your own
-spooky models that fade the closer you get to them. Have them move around a bit (probably really easy if you reskin things like the zombie or islave, use something that looks pathetic, like its dead, not something full of energy like an agrunt)
-A slight echo thoughout the whole map.
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-14 23:41:08 UTC Post #33465
ok, what the heck. That second zombie website. Do those people actually believe in combatting REAL zombes? Do they actually believe zombies exist?! Bunch of gothic freaks who need to get over their pot addiction is what i say.
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-15 01:42:17 UTC Post #33481
yup, i looked it well, there freaks
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-15 11:09:54 UTC Post #33570
Yeah tell me about it. I mean these people are convinced that they have seen and combatted 'zombies' Not only that but they discuss the best methods in doing so!
