I honestly haven't had time to do anything since the images that I've posted, but I will definitely have time to work on it on the weekend. I've secured permission to have a look around the aerodynamics lab, and I've also been stockpiling ideas for the general look of the place so I hope I will definitely have something in.

i just played the alpha of this. It's good, but i have a suggestion. You know how in first person the player is a blue shift barney instead of a HEV clad person so I think its a good idea to replace the battery model with kevlar from blue shift (and edited skill.cfg) or something else, yeah? No idea what to do if someone uses wall suitchargers though

Or we could use the powered combat vest from Opposing Force. It doesn't have arms, so it shouldn't interfere with the Barney viewmodels.

Why?
Jessie JessieTrans Rights <3
Posted 9 years ago2015-03-01 08:56:25 UTC Post #324473
It shouldn't affect the viewmodel, it is silent (exept for a few bleeping sounds), it allows you to use battery power for armor, and most importantly, we can just say it's a powered security guard vest or something if anyone asks.

The reason not to use the H.E.V suit, is to have a reason to use custom viewmodel arms, and remove all of those voice lines.
beep Minor fracture detected.
bloop Power: 10%
beep beep beep Seek medical attention.
If you want to, I can give you a green H.E.V-Suit reskin I med earlier for a mod, until I changed so you don't have the suit in it.
Tell me if you're interested.

Oh, right! Because everyone was complaining about not being able to use custom viewmodel arms, and about the voice lines. I guess I forgot!

No, but I'm guessing that's why Urby, the one leading this project and who can do whatever with this project, thought when excluding the H.E.V-Suit in that post some pages ago.

Also, please stop being so ironic all the time.

Alright, I genuinely missed that one small paragraph on page 3 (which as far as I can find is the only previous mention to it in this whole thread). Nor have I used any batteries, or weapons that show the viewmodel. Now that I've found it and read it, 2much's post actually makes sense.
This is, in essence, still a Half-Life mod though. I don't think anyone will really be bothered if the batteries are still batteries.

Posted 9 years ago2015-03-01 15:29:04 UTC Post #324480
I will, I referenced the batteries 100s of times. Also, how logical would it be with a wall mounted box spewing out armor peices at you?
Really, imagine that you walk up to a box sitting on the wall, presses a button, and suddenly you get crushed by helmets and chestplates.

The player is wearing power armour. It's powered by batteries and wall chargers.

No, please! Oh, no no no! I'm tired of those guys who make maps for Half-Life, and then uses on-screen text messages for dialouge! It may work for a few games that have the proper reasons, and mission breifings or other stuff that just wouldn't make sense if you use voice acting, but come on!

I've been down to the lab a few times now but the guy who's supposed to be showing it to me hasn't been there. I fear I may have to start working now and just let the accuracy take a hit, as I don't think I'm supposed to be in there unaccompanied. I did however get a look at the main wind tunnel though, which is alright I suppose.

I feel I've been mapping for long enough to know what I like, and when it comes to making something that's meant to represent a real world object in some manner I generally like to make it as accurate as possible. If there were room to make a larger wind tunnel you could guarantee I'd do the relevant calculations so that a trigger_push on the inside would simulate the correct airspeed for the model.

It looks like I won't be finishing my floor. I'm going to Gibraltar and Malaga for a week with school, so there'll be no time for mapping. And I've run out of ideas. I might repurpose parts of the floor for another map. Good luck everyone.

can i get a list of all the custom models this mod has? For some reason the mod folder has copies of the original half life model files (although some, like the soldiers, are different). Like theres a custom sink prop model and flo grass. I get lag in the lobby for some reason too, hope its not just me.

I also want to add that the spirit engine your mod is using is kinda buggy. It appears to be using the debug HL codebase, and also there are some other problems like temporary invisible bullsquids and no hornetfire sounds on agrunts, which I saw while playing dr orange's floor. It's prolly not possible to fix these issues since they are code based, which is too bad.
Posted 9 years ago2015-03-09 08:17:29 UTC Post #324576
It's very possible to fix those. I've already done it in the Core. The invisible Bullsquid is a scripted sequence issue (mapper error, not code) , which has also been fixed.

All the original low def models have been copied to the base mod. Barney's view model weapons and the Opposing Force grunts as well. The only other custom models are the ones that came with the spirit mod or that other mappers are adding. That's it. The list is in the models folder really. The files being the list. :P

No, I had a texture that was to large. Fixed now.

So with VHLT, are you supposed to use the lights.rad file still? I ask this because the VHLT download has all the texturelight values in lights.rad commented out.
Posted 9 years ago2015-03-09 16:07:53 UTC Post #324586
Hmmm, I must have accidentally updated the download with the map files intact. My bad. Hey well. We'll all be paying them soon anyway. :P

Still not sure why the lobby having gameplay is surprising... I definitely mentioned it weeks ago.

Atom, looks like an error I saw in the Core before when there was way too much going on at once. It came down to gib counts in the end. And yeah, it still uses lights.rad... Not sure why yours are commented out.

I've really seen the lobby as a sort of pre-level up to this point. The 0th level, if you get what I mean. A short introduction to what the rest will be about. The part where nobody tries to kill you. Were the story I assume you have written for the mod is started.

Generally speaking, a "Lobby" is just one room. This is where the minimal story is given to the player and is free of combat. The offices and warehouse beyond that are hostile.
