This whole thing is getting too bloddy for my taste. It's not that I dislike stuff like that in general, but splatter and huge blood fountains can quickly take the horror out of the game. Image the first time you face one of those zombies you've got no weapon, you're going to be really scared. Next time you've got tons of powerfull guns and BANG!, 'Yeah, I've blown that head away like nothing, COOL!', next zombie BOOM!, 'Haha, there your legs fly appart.', no horror at all. Horro mostly happens in your mind. When you have to imagine things, there is much more space for fear. Instead of a zombie that tears a human into pieces and blood spreading all over the floor, some very horrifying screams and grunting noises seem like much more horror. Just don't make too much visual horror, let the player imagine what's happening behind that door.

force the player back. have hundreds of oncoming zombies so the player is so scared shitless he wouldnt care if he was killing them with a cats tounge and a piece of string.
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-19 16:23:41 UTC Post #34873
get the theyhunger feeling, at the church when you rang the bell, all the zombies appear!!. and you have to whack them to save ammo form your gun

Sound advice, hazardous. I doubt it shall be heeded. BrattyLord's written a tutorial on horror atmosphere... it's here.

You seemingly tend to take screenshots from the wrong postions all the time. :) The upper pic was too dark, this staircase looks great from underneath.
When it looks great from another angle, make a screeny from that angle.

yes, and try to make the light not so normal but make it angled and give it some supporting thingie wich i dont remember the name of

These are all excellent screenies. If only I could map that well...lol

On a side note, you guys all like abandoned-places.com too? Wow...I've been doing Urban Exploration and Industrial Photography for a few years now, if you guys are interested and I get access to a scanner within the next week (mine caught on fire and I tossed it out a second-nd story window...lol) I can get some of my pics uploaded on my site, which supports hotlinking and 300gigs/bandwith per month, so I can make em nice and clear.

@rabidmonkey777: I'd like to see your photographs, too.

Hmmm, I came across this site for a new Half-life 2 total conversion based on a 'Zombie' style. http://www.nomoreroominhell.com/
It has all the stuff we were talking about (ish) but it is a co-op mod. This one is going to be a single-player mod. I think we'll have much better ideas without being so cliche --

Yea, well, the word zombie exists as a description for people who are in a catatonic state due to the powder of a snapper fish (I think it is snapper fish) being blown in the victims face. The victim is burried, and appears to come back to life -- a zombie. But zombies that walk around groaning with missing jawbones are what we are dealing with.

Also, RabidMonkey777, definately. Show us these pics, that would be great.
p.s. I must admit, I've been sucked back into Tiberium Sun for a bit, maybe its a different phase of the moon or something, but I'll get back in line again I'll promise, well, after I do some more SunEdit2k-ing. ;)
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-21 11:51:00 UTC Post #35208
i didnt actually read all of that but i saw the multiplayer zombie thing. having other people around would take away the isolated horror feel. you and other players running round with weapons wouldnt be as umuch fun as running around on your own.
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-21 12:02:11 UTC Post #35209
Yeah. This mod wont be just a 'game', it will almost be a real experience.

And, getting 'points' for killing the most zombies?.........nah
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-21 12:09:20 UTC Post #35210
Getting points at all, nah!
Maybe for not wetting your pants in the most horrible scenes. :D
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-21 12:19:34 UTC Post #35215
if ur takin the idea of puttin criminals in the zombie city then points dont need 2 be used. its merely a case of survival.
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-21 12:31:13 UTC Post #35221
exactly.

...Just visited APs again, and I found a great set of pictures of an insane asylum, I think I will be mapping right about now.

In the copywrite at the bottom of the web page you say "Don't download the pictures"

Well when you are looking at them they are downloaded in your Temporary Internet Files folder.

AUGHH I committed a crime!

No, it says Don't DL them unless it's on your browser's default settings, i'm pretty sure. It's just to prevent ppl from intentionally "saving image as" and taking my pics. Just don't take them and say they're yours and I'll pretend not to notice ;) )

And thanks, photography is a huge hobby of mine (wow, i'm repeating my pages) so it's nice to see some comments on my work.
