Read the tutorials. There's still over a fortnight left, you've got tons of time.

I don't have a chance anyway, but I will still do it.

i dont get, can you make your own machine as a model ore not. becasue i havent mapped in a month and i have no cleu what to make
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-26 18:42:12 UTC Post #36719
Modeling the whole machine would be cheating. You can do much more with models and it's easier, too.
I use a model for a little valve, the rest is pure world craft.

bah, I WANT TO MODEL IT :zonked:
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-27 08:59:16 UTC Post #36852
well i dont stand a chance of winning but im entering anyway :

Mines an abandoned stamp factory with a big old rusty stamp machine there. Although it looks nothing like a stamp machine (not that i would know what that looks like anyway), it looks alright. When I finish this i might extend the map and chuck in some gameplay :) Sound fun? Walking around an abandoned factory with monsters around every corners as well as some nice weak floors to fall through  (which i would imagine might get annoying after u fall through a few of them)

Oh well, there goes the idea for my entry... not that i have a chance of winning because it aint very original and well how functional can an old unusable machine be?.... lol

I'm looking forward to seeing other peoples entries. I just hope i dont come last :zonked:

You should not post your ideas here.
Someone could steal it and win the compo due to his better mapping skills.

Don't worry about it, trapt. Chin up ;)

I know what you mean hazardous... BUT, if a person did win under those circumstances, that would mean that he/she is a better mapper than me and i wouldn't have won anyway, because he/she would have used their better mapping skills on a different map. AND PLUS, if someone does use it I would amazed. It means that my idea was indeed a good one. Although I don't know what stooge would actually want to steal the idea of not functional old stamp factory machine : sounds kind of stupid to me :)

NO!
I've seen thousands of map that looked like crap, but where fun playing 'em anyway.
Actually it is impossible to build a really nice map in three weeks. But only about 40% of the playing fun is the eye candy.

Depends on your definition of 'really nice'.
I just tried to encourage him, why did you spoil it?

do we get marked on poly counts. will high r_speeds effect your score.
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-28 11:06:05 UTC Post #37190
If it's unplayable, then yes. Go for 800 as max, since one of the judges plays in software and will start losing bits of your map if you go higher.

What!?! Why?
I have a tnt2 and high r_speeds will slow down my machine, too.
But I often build detailed stuff that requires r_speeds between 900 and 100.
I don't know if I will need so much for this compo, but I think r_speeds above 800 should be allowed in non-combat areas.

Ah, sorry, I was doing the same in a different way.

Up to you re: r_speeds. My map sports a "Specially designed with Andy in mind" sign though :)

???
What do you want to say? I didn't get it.

He's the judge who runs in software. Got a nice sign with it written on and my wpolies WILL stay under 800 deletes brushes at random aaaah.

Ah, now I know what you meant.
Will I be disqualified if faces disappear, due to high r_speeds?
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-28 17:12:08 UTC Post #37257
I doubt it. I just sympathise with Andy. Plus he's a judge and I don't want to risk it :)

im building a 14000 r_speeds map, especialy for andy :P
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-28 17:27:19 UTC Post #37267
YARGH! :zonked:
I want to see that one!
I've managed to get more than 10k with w_polies and e_polies once.
And I've been using High-def models.
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-28 17:52:01 UTC Post #37272
i was joking :D
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-28 18:01:30 UTC Post #37273
i know :D
But I've really managed to get > 10k r_speeds. Without useless splitting and sh*t like that.
