The xen part was fun, too.
Try to play without quicksaving, improves your feeling for the HL physics, or makes you throw your PC out the next window. :P
I liked the gman outros a lot, though many people complained because there was no real solution in the end. It's cool to have an open end.

Yeah, otherwise there'd be no Half-Life 2... ;)

I've never actually played Blue-Shift (I know, I should but...)

But anyway, in Half-Life, mine has to be, maybe On a Rail or Surface Tension. But I do like the bit after the disaster, I think it's the chapter after Unforseen Circumstances where the G-Man is on the platform staring at you and there is those bullsquids and toxic barrels -- I always enjoy that part
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-25 13:01:58 UTC Post #36322
No, you mean the one in the silo? That's blast pit I think. I actually like questionable ethics alot. Those textures are so cool.
m0p m0pIllogical.

HL: I dunno, maybe Blast Pit and Lamba Complex
BS(well heh.): Captive Fight or whatever was it
Op4: The first chapter, can't remember the name :/

The intros all rule, especially the opfor and bs intros. They were really good. But my fave normal maps:

HL: Questionable ethics, Lambda core, Surface tension
OpFor: The package, Foxtrot uniform, Vicarious reality (Biodome labs)
BS: Captive freight, Power struggle, A leap of faith
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-25 17:49:58 UTC Post #36401
Hm.. i was let down by the biodome levels, i was expecting a lot more story backbone from those maps

BS(well heh.): Captive Fight or whatever was it

Captive Freight.

Welcome To Black Mesa.

As for me, I liked Surface Tension for HL, Foxtrot Uniform for OpFor and Captive Freight for Bshift (teh only big chapter for bshift) Runners up are Friendly Fire (Op4), Insecurity (Nice chapter name, BS), Office Complex (HL) and Boot Camp (Op4).

Anyone else find the secret room in Op4's Boot camp, by the way? There is one.

intros are great, but i didnt play BS...

hl: Blast Pit and Welcome to Black Mesa, and that part when you first time see the sky... You know that part when OSPREY is there and soldiers come down with ropes in that shaft... Brrrrr.

OPFOR: first chapter
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-27 13:53:33 UTC Post #36888
i found that hidden room. i wont say where though, just to keep a surprise (and im a selfish little f**k :D )

for hl it would be surfce tension. bs i liked the outro. opfor was probably the outdoor bit with all ur buddies, just before and after foxtrot uniform.
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-27 18:04:56 UTC Post #36985
Hidden room? You mean that elevator in forget about freeman with the big red button? That's no secret. Just noclip into it. It's obvious theres summin there as the button makes a noise.
m0p m0pIllogical.

Hidden room in the OpFor boot camp. It has the developer's initials (DMM) and 1999 in it. The elevator in "Forget About Freeman" was apparently part of the map that didn't make it. The button changelevels into the Lambda Core level into the vehicle bay with the tank. (You die, though). If anyone can't find the hidden room, ill post a pic in a while.

You can also check out your buddies and check out the Osprey that you fly into BM on in Boot Camp, apparently when the sergeant says "now go on your mission" or whatever, you would have to run to the osprey. Removed from the final release.

And I got lost in the biodome, it was too confusing.

And the Bshift outro was cool, the car was neato, and I like the sci hacking away at the fence with the crowbar. The "ba_maint" level was also cool, with the sci messing with the console and getting shocked, and barney leaping up from his chair.

OOOOH! I know the hidden room in the boot camp. That's a pretty cool room. If you noclip around in the initial part of my security breach map, you will find a secret room.

BS: I like Captive Freight, Focal Point, Power Struggle, A Leap of Faith

OP4: the first chapter

BS: Power struggle
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-17 16:32:19 UTC Post #42361
Favorite chapters of Half Life:

Office Complex
Sureface tension
Questionable ethics
Xen (of course I love xen!)
Interloper/Nihilanth (if you can really consider that a chapter)

We've got hostiles is my most unliked chapter, all you fight in human grunt, gets annoying after a while.

Played OpForce but only once and I dont rember much from it

Its funny how the intials of blue shift is bs, what does that say about the game? Haha.

Give yourself some extra ammo in 'Insecurity' and break the box in Calhoun's Locker.
to beat the game you have to beat me blahblahblah....somtin like that...........hehe
"To win the game, you must kill me, Randy Pitchford."

As for BS being the initials of Bshift, it says nothing! I really enjoyed Bshift, and you haven't completed the Black Mesa saga until you've played it. It had some nice levels and details, too, although was very short. Beat in 5 hours last weekend.

from bluesnews
I was puttering around Zen in Half-Life Blue Shift, and being the nosey character I am, I decided to dive to the bottom of the deep pool (just before the waterfalls). I started hearing strange squeaks and chirps and noticed a small slit in the wall at the bottom of the pool. There are a couple of hairs sticking out of the floor in front of it.
I pulled out the trusty crowbar and started beating on the wall. I was down to about the last gasp of air when the wall gave way to a short passage. I popped up in a small cave and the game informed me that I was in "Chumtoad's Lair." There were three chumtoads sitting in front of impailer plants. I took a swing at one with the crowbar, and they all teleported elsewhere. The only thing left was a couple of snark pods.

the blue shift disc included op4 when it came out.
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-19 04:43:44 UTC Post #42728
It still does. Comes with Plat'num pack, I think OpFor came with Generations. They sold it standalone in 2000 or whenever it came out, too. I remember seeing Calhoun on the shelf right there with Shepard and Gordon and the Counter-Strike dudes.

http://dhost.info/RabidMonkey777/randypitchford.wav if anyone wants to hear what that OpFor sound clip sounds like, I recorded it backwards so y'all can hear the message.

I like Uplink too...had some really nice details in it, and was part of the 'c3a1' level series originally, so its interesting to see how that fits into the bigger game.

I also like the scene in Unforseen Consequences where that zombie is doing the freakout thing in the chair, and that strobe light.

It was a sales ploy to try and sell more copies. Didn't work as most people already had OpFor.

From HL I enjoy mostly 'Questionable Ethics' and 'Surface Tension'. Sometimes I start playing the game over again just to reach these two chapters. And when I reach 'Forget about Freeman' I just restart...

The whole Op4 is very enjoyable, cause it has many surface areas. The Biodome labs are very nice, especially these observation areas.

What did you think of Gunman? Just out of curiosity :
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-20 12:07:43 UTC Post #43167
Just type changelevel c3a1, think thats somewhere near questionable ethics.

I love the biodomes in op4. Those are sooooooo cool. It's also the part where you get my favorite weapon, the barnacle! :P

Oh, well what is c3a1? Xen? Probably, I know c4a1 is Gonoarchs lair and c5a1 is the gman's offer.
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-20 15:15:11 UTC Post #43225
Yeah, I think c3a1 is Xen.
