I don't know how many of you have played the PS2 version of HL but the models were so cool looking. Eyes and fingers and klieners see-through glasses! Wow. As mundane as that sounds i see it as a breakthrough.

Now, since then i have been searching the web for the PS2 models on PC. The Grunts and Otis in Sven Coop v3.0 were close (ie. Eyes and Fingers!) but none of the other models were. The HD pack with Blue-Shift did improve the models a little but not completley :(

If anyone has any info or links on PS2 HL models on PC please let me know. ;)

Cheers,
Urban :badass:

Search these forums for "high definition models". There are several sites, all linked to several times, with excellent models (barney, with proper eyes, blinks, individual fingers, and a shield, etc).

Ok. The sites are cool and all but they haven't been updated in while. Have they gone to pot? :

Actually i aint sure if thats the same one. I think to get the official pack you need BS's CD. Otherwise i think it comes with Sven Coop v3.0.

Go get the SD ones, if your computer can handle it, Anthony. They look really nice, and are a lot better than the HD ones.

...Or rip the models from Ps2 yourself and re-skin them...

For the rest of you who want models:
http://dynamic4.gamespy.com/~aow/
Click on Sven Co-op. There's plenty of models. You will need a Gamespy account unfortunately. They're free, but are still a pain in the arse. The queue's aren't too bad though.

Nice link. I'll hafta break out my 12StepCrowbar Gamespy account and d/l them all. The 'Madness' Barnabus replacement is cool. Along with the Barney with the functioning Riot Shield...and well, lots of the models there. Go check it out if you haven't already, they have some nice variations that HIT does not. And, it saves me from re-skinning everything :P .

I've got Ambient.Impact's hacked PS2 scientists. There is a few issues (like the black sci looking as if he has a hangover and the bald guy having a see thru bit in his head) but they only show up in some animations and don't produce any real problems.

Oh, and I have ambient.impact grunts and barney.

I've never noticed the see thru bit on Slick. And Luther doesn't have a hangover, he just hasn't gotten the beverage machine to work yet ;) . Going long periods without caffiene is bad for those scientists. (For that matter, me too)

It's not Slick, it's Einstein that has the problem.

Hmm...Definitely not noticable easily then.

Maybe it is just my HL. All the models (even standard ones) go wierd. For example, the model of the metal filing cabinet looks distorted. Aliens and humans have flickering clothes. And ammo looks distorted and bulgy.

That's strange...reinstall?

Video card issue maybe? I assume you run in OpenGL and not D3D. Try reinstalling.

Open GL with ATi Catalysts 4.6. Hmm, it only started doing that when I installed the new drivers though. Hmmmmmmm. I might try reinstalling HL first though.

Odd. Try a reinstall, then take off the drivers and see if it still does it.

Pepper: Not all of the models were ripped, and those that were have been heavily improved.

Advice for everyone: If you can't get model transparency (Like the glasses on Ambient.Impact's scientist), download the DoD transparency dlls from one of the threads in the help desk forum (I think). Or use Steam. DON'T use both. WON: Dlls; Steam: No Dlls.
BTW, use my models ;)

HIT's models are a lot better than the PS2 models. Conveniently, because some were ripped, they are very easy to convert and hack to bits. Look at the difference between the PS2 scientist and AI's scientist. Same with the grunts, although I liked the PS2 grunt. Barney looks very similar to the original, but has still been improved a lot.
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-11 18:22:43 UTC Post #40499
AI's Barney carries an M4/16, the PS2 one doesn't have it. There are improvements over the PS2 models like clearly readable nametags and buckles on armor.
