Anyone here following Nightwatch? It's turning out to be a really impressive mod, and the screenshots at their site are really excellent.

http://hl-nightwatch.net

They just had a gigantic Media Update so there are some nice new level shots, and the weapons are looking nice (m249 and the fire axe/extingusher are my favorites). The music samples they also have available for download are nice. Go check it out if you haven't already.

They're also looking for skinners/animators, sound FX and music artists and voice actors, so if you are talented in one of these fields, give it a look.

I really love the level style.
I hope they don't spoil it with too much action and too realistic or powerful weapons.

I know, the levels are amazing. I like "Overtime" the best. I think it'll have great playability, the people working on it are amazing, and KungFuSquirrel's (former) mod leadership landed him a job at Raven as a level designer. It's had 2.5 years of work put into it, so I think it'll be great fun.

I'm definitely a fan of Nightwatch, although I do not follow it so closely. The atmosphere in their levels is really strong, I'm looking forward to play the final release... :)

Amazes me just how detailed the architecture is -- apparently it's not even damaging poly counts

If you read the site you would realise they made the r_speed limit 1200 instead of 600-800, although the architecture still looks really detailed for even 1200 wpolys :zonked:

The updated limit plus the re-detailing of the original HL textures in some areas are what make them so detailed, and they look top notch.

And i'm with you, MoP, I have their desktop too ;) .

the only guy on the team i've had contact with is pv. he doesn't mince words, but ive found him to be very helpful and knowledgable in all things mapping. he bends over backwards to help support the mapping comunity imo.

hey a Nightwatch interview and more screens: http://www.thegamingelement.com/articles.php?articleid=4&p=1

/me drools
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-08 23:18:18 UTC Post #39849
/adds to the droolage

Looking nice. I like the "feature" that events you cause in levels may have an effect six or seven levels later, so it might be a better idea to use some extra ammo to save a guard than to let him die...

And that article had screenies not up on the NW site. Mmm....screenies.

/me also adds to droolage, and drool slowly drips all over keyboard while my brother wonders why my eyes are glued to the screen and why i am drooling.

They should remake HL with those textures, they are so sexy ;)

Mmm...HL remake with nightwatch textures.

If they don't do it, I will :P . It's as easy as opening HL.wad and copying over the NW textures, making sure the names are the same as the default ones. Should work.

I say mmm.... too much.

Posted 20 years ago2004-07-09 07:16:44 UTC Post #39900
Lol. mmm....

You would need to rename the NW wad file half-life.wad and overwrite the old one wouldnt you?

Anyways I'm gonna do it, even if it means having to spend hours in wally renaming all of the textures :D
