Posted 20 years ago2004-07-20 17:59:35 UTC Post #43312

There were old compos where you download a base map and change it to make your compo entry. They were called "Map from Base".

oh, like "texture it, light it, play it". I really wanted to do one of those... :(

Yeah, that looked cool, because you get a lotta variety from just one room in those ones.

I don't like those compos.
They don't leave you much possiblities to make it your own.
It's better to name a topic and then let the people map.
That way you can see their whole spectrum of skills.

Why not start a new sort of comp whith half a map from base??
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-22 05:27:00 UTC Post #43686
I had a similar idea....give the player a base to work with, and possibly a limit to the polys he can use? So you get a base, and certain blocks that you could VM, resize, retexture, do whatever with.

lol. I hope seventh chooses a cool subject for next compo. Mapping a real place (famous) would be cool I reckon. A good challenge, plus n00bs will overlook it because it will too hard for them :badass:

That's what I call going on [UT2K3]Answering Spree[/UT2K3], Seventh... ;)

Congrats with winning the compo, 7th. Too bad I couldn't finish my work, but well, maybe that's what you get when you go LANning with a friend... Anyway, we'll see what the next compo will bring us...

Have more full map compos than base map compos, but keep base maps. I want to try a base map compo.
