What is the signifcance of the Lambda dam?! There must be something that I am missing because it is in every part of the Black Mesa incedent series, including Point Of View.

It collects water to cool the lambda reactor.
m0p m0pIllogical.

Usually dams are built to gain electrical power.
Posted 20 years ago2004-08-01 15:12:11 UTC Post #47382
The Lambda complex is powered by a nuclear reactor, so the dam may well have served as an auxiliary power source or/and as a coolant water reservoir.

Who knows? It's of little importance to the story, it's just a (recognizable) place... :)

I say it is a coolant resovoir. How else would they store 1000s of gallons of water?
m0p m0pIllogical.

Drinkwater reservoir maybe too. Black Mesa is situated in a sort of desert so drinkwater seems pretty important to me then...

dams are usually there to destroy the lives of indeginous tribes etc. Im scared at your attention to details coolfat! REALLY scared!
Posted 20 years ago2004-08-01 16:00:14 UTC Post #47391
the dam is a hydro electric....obviously.....if you look in the begining of hl, one of the flip signs say hydro electric and it showes the dam

Good eye for detail, Terrel... :)

thx

No, the coolant reservoir is underground. In Blue-Shift, you visit it to find a power cell. The coolant reservoir is under the prototype labs.
Posted 20 years ago2004-08-01 16:13:54 UTC Post #47399
i made a huge generator, well am making, and its got the coolant reservoir rotors with it, made them by memory of course
Posted 20 years ago2004-08-01 16:36:52 UTC Post #47412
true terrel, it says on the sign "hydro electric" and has a piccy of the dam.
Posted 20 years ago2004-08-01 16:38:35 UTC Post #47414
yeh...uh....thats what i said

nice eye terrel, very nice. All of the HL mods explains the dam, and other stuff.

if anybody played "They Hunger" there's a dam in one of the levels. and i think it's the Lambda Dam.
Posted 20 years ago2004-08-01 17:32:09 UTC Post #47432
I don't think so, as They Hunger plays in a totally different environment, a totally different story actually.

As for coolant reservoirs, the ones in Bleushift were probably for the teleporter devices there. The Lambda Core may well have it's own coolant reservoirs. Isn't that what you swom through?
Posted 20 years ago2004-08-01 17:40:19 UTC Post #47433
yeah. i knew that. just thought it was good for the moment. THEY DAM HUNGER!!

i got that from a PC gamer CD just weeks ago

Yes, the Bshift coolant resivoir was for the teleporter.

If anyone remembers Lambda core, you had to run around turning on the pumps in the cooling stations for the reactors. You go swimming in the reactor core, though.

Wait, in the Lambda core, the coolent is in those tanks. I forgot that. But what suppplies the tanks though. Hmmm.
m0p m0pIllogical.

Im just asking is there is any signifcance to the game, I already know what a dam does.
Posted 20 years ago2004-08-01 23:14:08 UTC Post #47469
maybe.....but mainly its there just because its there....to give environment
Posted 20 years ago2004-08-01 23:36:43 UTC Post #47472
It's there because it's another area to play through. No significance to the game other than it's just another part of Black Mesa.

its there to give bm power.
Posted 20 years ago2004-08-02 06:30:02 UTC Post #47515
Its there so yu can blow up the garg. And go through the pipe.

Or have you noticed that at the end of the dam there is a security door that is closed and locked. So you have to take an alternate route. Then at the end of all of that, you see that same door, but on the other side. Valve people are genius's

I thinjk the actual significance of the dam to the sotry is that it connects the Lambda facility to Black Mesa. (Did anyone ever notice that Black Mesa is rediculously huge?!)
Posted 20 years ago2004-08-02 08:33:08 UTC Post #47544
Yes, its humongus. I want them to make the balck mesa over again in real life, it would be huge, and cool.

I wonder where the rocket in "On a rail" is used for. After you launched it, you never hear about the rocket anymore.
Posted 20 years ago2004-08-02 10:15:04 UTC Post #47556
yeah u do. the rocket is the satellite delivery system. once the rocket goes up it lets the scis at lambda open the portal to xen, which you use.

You know, Ministeve? That is a horribly doctered picture.

lol... I thought I was the only person to map for HL without finishing it, yet I have been proved wrong.

Do not go crazy at me, I am playing through it. The thing is, I played CS, mapped for CS, then suddenly thought it would be more fun to map HL. That was when I started playing. I am currently up to the start of 'Interloper', so I am right near the end.

And coolfat! Never say I hope you die to anyone! That is shameful... You say 'I hope you die in one of the things in the Worst way to die thread!'
