I need a really good tut on how to improve the look of a level..... its all too boxy at the moment, and when i try to improve it, each room starts to look similar. Is there a cure for this, doctor???

if you have a light fixture.....using the light texture ya know to make a place of where the light entity would be coming from.....if you have that just a brush and not make it a func_wall, the light would hit the brush and, you can tell cuz of the different shades of light coming from all the sides, would split the cieling face

In a less confusing explanation. (Sorry, Terrel)

Whenever you make any type of object that isn't an entity, (func_train, func_wall, light_environment) it splits anything up that it touches. Unless you make the object that the light fixture is touching an entity or the light fixture itself an entity, it will split up the walls of your map.

Make a room and add a small box that touches the floor. In OpenGL mode, type in the console "gl_wireframe 1" you'll see that the little box is breaking up the floor. Now go back to Hammer or Worldcraft and make that little box an entity. Run the map and type the same thing in the console. Whala, no more break-up-age.

You must be in OpenGL mode for gl_wireframe to work. It's where the resolution settings are.

Just some advice, setting your ZHLT lightflags on those func_walls that would normally block light (But don't due to them being entities) should b set to opaque

If you want to make really amazing archetecture, you have to be consious of every detail. you can do this using VM. Research and learn about VM. Give yourself a goal, like, "I'm gonna make a cello with VM" then try and do it. If you fail, you will learn about VM's limitations, but if you succede, you will learn about what is possible, so there is no failing using this tequniue of learning. Learn from your mistakes, then move on.

Yeah - read the VM tutorial. You can make anything with VM... so long as you don't mind insanely detailed things ending up horrifically disproportionately large :)
