hey me again, i am trying to compile, and whenever i do, i get the error brush 326 out side world. brush 326 for me is the wall that closes the map from the rest of the grid. so wtf?
i cant have my map in a box?!

:confused:

i am also in a contest for this map and i want to win. the deadline is in like a week

You need to check for problems (Map>check for probelms) if that dosen't work submit the map to the problem maps section of the Map vault and see if we can figure it out.

basically, if you've used clip/vertex manip or any other tool apart from the brush tool and the texture tool on those brushes, then it's due to an invalid shape, to fix it, write down all those brush numbers that have errors, go to 'Map / Go To Brush' and type in those numbers, check for errors, and/or delete them and make it again.

it could also be: that you have made that brush into an entity, like a func_wall (ring any bells); you cannot have an entity outside the world, this means no func_walls closing in your map. to fix, highlight the brush(es) and click 'To World' (next to 'To Entity')

failing all that put a big brush around the outside, select it, right click, Hollow (give it a minus number, like -12), and try compiling it when it's in the good ol' "test box", just remember you can't submit maps like this, it's good for checking errors and such.

OR

pt ya map in the vault like he suggested, your problem is probably simple and easy to resolve. ;)

what it looks like is your map is outside of the grid area. im not sure on how your map is layed out (sence I cant see it) but select everything and move it into the middle of the grid area keeping all your stuff as it was before. Its kinda hard to explane

know what, i am just gonna host it. i know its completly horrible, but its my second map i have ever made. just look at it and plz help if u want to. just dl it here. this problem just urinates me off so much. i really hate when i am making a map that i like, just for fun, like a deathmatch, and it doesnt even work.

btw, this site owns all. theres so much useful info here and u guys r so helpful. other places just say "go search on google" its good to talk to educated people

i checked the big cube around the map, it is hollowed, and conains no entitiies. but i keep getting the errors about them being outside the world. i also textured it as sky and adjusted the map properties accordingly. btw, that all is not in the map i posted. but still i get the error. maybe my hammer is bjorked....<----pun haha

oh well, any help is much appreciated.

gj Geek on spotting that, it was late and my head wasn't working great.
basically, you don't have to fill up the whole grid, just coz your mouth can fit your fist inside, doesn't you gotta try and put your foot in it.

I did once, for fun or maybe testing purpose. Just to se what would happen.

It seems VIS doesn't like too large surfaces or something like that. VIS didn't run correctly and so RAD wasn't run. I ended up with a full-bright concrete, err... thing...

ok, yes i know that map was horrific. sry. i changed a lot. even if i dont get it done i can submit the rmf and still win the money. but i would like to compile it.

i shrunk the map x10.....and the humungous cube known as the sky has been resized to just 16 units above the building. i think i will host the new one. even tho THE WHOLE MAP is inside the damn grid hammer is stupid and wont compile it. the updated map should be replaced in 10 minutes time. thanks

My advise: start with a new map and Snap to the Grid. Trying to solve all these problems would probably take more time than doing it all anew on the right scale.

Resizing things by other factors than 2 nearly always ends you up with vertexes not on the grid, wich can cause various problems, like the coplanar faces and such. One thing you should get used to is the grid. All vertexes should be on the grid.
For you, it would be best now to start with a grid size of 32 or 64 and Snap to Grid.

Another tip: my walls often are 128 units heigh. You may want to use the info_player_start as indicator for the size of something, as it's as large as you are in-game.

omg. i would start over, but the deadline is in like 3 days. i cant redo all this in that time. all the customization i did. i stayed up all night doing the chairs and computer parts and i still got the problems. even if it wasnt proportioned right, it should still compile. look at rat maps. they dont get compile errors saying, "the chair is way too big" or "the toothbrushes are out of proportion".

i mean wtf is wrong with my stuff? shouldi reinstall hammer, or wtf. i need to know.

No... you just don't know about the limits. Practise, my friend, practise. I'm afraid you honestly wouldn't win a competition with a map like that. Practise lots. Read all the tutorials you can find. Experiment. Rinse, repeat.
