Do you know how to code? Without extra coding, you don't need another .fgd. You'd better keep it simple unless you want to go for some intensive programming...

You are clearly not ready to make a mod as you don't even know how to make a fgd.

or apparently, what an fgd does. or is.

You need to code the dll-- and then the fgd, for example if you add weapons to the dll you have to add them to the fgd file so you can place them in your levels(in hammer..e.t.c.)

if your asking this stuff, its WAY above your level. basically, it involes coding.

you don't need a new fgd, nor do you need a new .dll for the mod you're more than likely to make.

just read teh tutorials on setting up a mod thru teh custom game stuff. ok.

ya but he/she probable wants to get involved so don't discourage them,
when you finally know what your doing its rather fun--but long hours of testing and stuff-- so what you need is a "Half-Life SDK Pack" (Just Google it) and make sure you back up the original half-life dll... you will also need a C+compiler Im not sure where you would get this online-- I just bought mine and Indigo Bookstore for $59.99 but you can probable download a different version for free online--do take into consideration that if your just starting I'd buy it because it comes with a book to help you along the way----
I know I tried avoiding buying it, but after i downloaded a different version It was clear that I needed to buy it---although the version I tried downloaded only had the make.ini file and a bunch of other application files soo yep.... anyways good luck with coding---oh and when reading the tuts on coding be very* careful. Wrong coding could cause a disaster..
On that note Happy Coding,

i only asked and u still havnt told me how to edit so your moving away from the main question

Before this goes any further, you might want to let us know what it is that you want to do.

Initially you mentioned that you want to make your own Mod and wanted to know what an FGD was and how to edit it.

An FGD is a simple txt file that allows WorldCraft/ Hammer to organise all the items that are available in the HL code, so that they can be used by the Editor (WorldCraft/ Hammer).
An FGD does not have any direct bearing on HL or items in it...

You do not need to alter an FGD to make your own Mod.
The only time you would alter the FGD, is when you add something to the HL code and want to impliment that for use in the editor.

Everyone that has responded to your question has made valid points...
I suggest you read the posts again now that you know what an FGD is and it's relationship to HL and WorldCraft/ Hammer.

ty for mthat andy u know what i mean the thing i want to do is remove the original weapons and make my own im just learning to do milkshake to but does it have to be a certain height in the modeler?

Decompile the original weapon v_ models to see how Valve did it. That's the best way to find out how to get your weapons done right.

Oh, and testing a lot is also very helpfull...

If you wont to only change the weapons, you don't need a new or midified .fgd.
But you have to learn how to model weapons, or you can use weapons made by other, just ask for permission to the authors.
