so no new models then. ok , when can we start, and do yuo like my timesplitters kinda game suggestion, then everyone will get their own bit.

we could start it off in a little lab inside black mesa with say 6-10 different teleportersthat go to differend parts of the world/universe/time space continewum thingamy.

just like ts2... i think if we hav lots of places 2 go 2 like u said and some telepots aint active till we find stuff in the other plces 2 make them go. a bit like ts2 with collectin sumtin in a place so u can get 2 the next.

I love that time idea. I've played timesplitters 2, and it's amazing. Maybe not just 1940 though. A WW1 section would be interesting, and there's a bit where you have to go over the top and miraculously survive. And I think we should do it like ts2, where you are a different character in every level. SO there could be a WW1 section, a WW2 section (More interesting: Non-mounted automatic guns!) and other sections.

Oh and one other question, i guess this has more to do with setting than anyhting else... Ya all know that Render Mode Additive thing? Ya know how it looks cool if you do it with something thats textured other than just a beam of light, like a hologram or a strange wall or something? I always wondered why they never worked that into the Xen levels. I mean it looks pretty damn alien... I guess they were going more for the mutated/gross angle than the technological angle.

But that doesnt mean we couldnt. I mean we could have a part of the level where the walls of several rooms are set to additive, so you can see through it, make a sweet little arena.

I dunno, just general ideas for mapping gimmicks if we're going to have a zillion people make these maps, and we want some kind of continuity.

One other idea: Space ships. Maybe i'm a starwars nerd, but I always thought it would be kind of kewl if as a parallel of the halflife beginning scene on the tram, you were in a space ship (track_train wiht an "invisible" track?) and rocks were flying by and you had an env_sprite that was the planet up ahead?

Other than that i dont think we want to get involved with drivable ships, vehicles, in particular spaceship vehicles, just dont work too well it seems in halflife engine... (CS Map Starwars 2... cough cough...)

Oh and one other question... What's going to be our melee weapon for this mod? It seems all the (good) mods need to have a new melee weapon. Halflife you had the crowbar, CS you had the knife, OPFor you had the wrench, DOD you had the shovel... What else is there to make? A sword? A hatchet of some sort? GMan's briefcase? (does he get that until later in the story, is that the "nuclear device" or "teleporter deviec" or whatever)

I dunno, just trying to get the juices flowing.

Oh, and just one fear about the time splitters thing... How you going to make baddies for the wild west? That woudl require skinning.... and coding.... I mean other than just stealing/nicking/borrowing models which we appear to be vehemently against, i dunno how you woudl get that to work. And nobody has done wild wild west. Short of the magnum weapon nothing even remotely seems to fit with that theme.

And I realize now that we already decided making waepons is impossible so the new melee weapon is not really possible either.

Unless some kind soul out there decides to make it possible.........

just thinking about the additive effect that was mentioned amongst that epic series of posts, how about we come up with some sort of plot that allows gordon to enter into something like the matrix, pure white backgrounds with objects appearing in a cool fashion, where you either learn more about the plot or end up fighting aliens or whatever i dont know
( Guns, lots of guns ) heh heh

Or/as well, something happens which allows gordon to control physical effects like gravity or pushing monsters away (good for cliffs/mountains)
Again, there are many possibilities.

All this shouldn't be theoretically too hard with some clever control of triggers etc like in opfor, you could trigger a teleport with the displacer.

Oh yes you could also find adrian sheperd in the matrix thing too, and he could waste aliens with a really big gun as a partner

um, i think we could use a level like that in the ts idea,

anyone that wants to make help post what you are gunna make and then we can fit them all together somehow. like the room with the teleports behind the doors.

my level we be in china/japan and gordon will be able to jump between the buildings (crouching tiger style).

send in suggestions for your part of the level.

Hehe, yeah that was alot of posts. Its like this was the first itme i'd seen the whole PQL thing and after reading 5 pages of eveyrone elses comments i had some comments of my own.

Matrix! Yes~! that would be intense

I guess i'm kinda seeing the virtues of this TS thing, cause its so loosely set up that anyone can make practically any map and it will work. Who cares if its not the most original idea, if its good game play thats all that matters.

I think we shouldnt try and categorize what its "going to be" in one thing. I think the matrix word is now banned from this thread, so lets move on.
In the TS idea we have to come up with concrete ideas for what people are realistically capable of and would be cool. Personally, I think elements where the laws of physics are bent, allowing gordon to jump from building to building or run extra fast, would be good as well as historical or future bits. To prevent people from feeling too distanced, what if gordon has to travel back in time to black mesa to do something or other, and change the past.

In any case we have to have a fixed premise VERY soon before this all collapses

hey what did we just say about the M word? taking high volts idea i think how about gordon gets really annoyed when he finds out about the bomb destroyin black mesa and killin all the nerds(scis) so he goes back in time to try and stop it blowin up and eliminating the alien scum another way.

yeh, maybe sheperd tells gordon when found captive in some far distant base, and he decides to prevent it happening. the good thing about this is that we don't know how much time passed between sheperd killing the gene worm and the bomb going off, so we can put in whatever we want there. We could have a brief encounter with the g-man, where he tells gordon about other "loose ends" he has to deal with and walks off.
I also think a "white mesa" in siberia or wherever would be a nice change, like jage said. Sorry ZL ;)

Looks like you guy's want to create a full blown releaseable Mod?

I suggest we start small and see where this takes us, after all that is how HL got started, but having said that there are some really great ideas here, have you guy's ever thought of forming a production team and getting it underway...

Honestly I didn't expect this kind of response, but I am glad to see the members of TWHL have some brilliant ideas, who knows what next year will bring.
