Well. I thought this was a n00b question. But no-one in IRC seems to know.

How do I make the blue parts on a tree MODEL transparent?

Render modes and FX ammount don't seem to be doing much at all.

Someone help..... if you can :

;)

You need to have Hammer 3.5, and it needs to fgd taht comes with it, on the same page as teh Hammer download.

If you're viewing it in an HLMV program, you need the latest one taht supports model transparency.

teh model should be rendered properly in-game, where is it not rendered properly?

in game?
or in hammer?

make sure you test in steam, as it has teh correct and updated dll's taht are required for model transparency.

It is rendered properly in hammer. In game it is has the blue around the leaves.

The problem with testing in steam is that a lot of people don't play in steam. And I don't want it to look stupid for the WON people. I myself play SP on WON.

Only HL 1.2.0.0 supports model transparency. Yes, that's Steam.

You can get new render DLLs from 1.2.0.0 for WON to sort this, but it ain't gunna make you popular releasing maps with that since few non-modder WONers'll've done so. If you want, I can give you the URL for the DLLs when I get home and can use FTP again (bah, proxies).

I copied the dll's to WON (the sw and hw dll's isn't it?) and it just stuffed up HL completely.... Had to reinstall.

I suppose I'll just leave them out.... They just added a bit of atmosphere. Leaving them out won't do anything too bad to the map anyways.

Tbh, never give up, it's bad mapping, ask 7th, I didn't stop harrasing people until I had a possible solution to a problem, then I worked for several hours until I had solved it, and my map will be alot better for it.

Map for steam, look to release maps for steam, WON is dead, upgrade upgrade upgrade.

Strange, I had no problems when I added these .dlls.

Anyway, I think most people will eventually go over to Steam, so personally I would use transparant models. But that's a designers choice I suppose...

I agree, you need to put the .dll's in teh right place though, I had a few problems with them when I first added them, but teh main problem was that my steam wasn't runnign at the time, which is why i tried, I gave up on WON (haha and tehre's me telling u never to give up!) and worked on getting steam running.

I got the model transparency dlls working like a jiffy - try again ;)

Or UPGRADE STEAM.

to Steam

Put the SW.DLL and HW.DLL files in Half-Life, backing up the old ones. Anythin' goes pear-shaped, jus' rename'm back.

I'm with Homercidal on this one.

It's indeed good to backup the old dlls, Seventh. Though I had no single problem when I replaced them, you never know... :)

Gee, thanks for that highly constructive comment, anonymous_guy. Since you're obviously such a genius, it'd no doubt be highly appreciated if you could advise trapt on recoding the DLLs involved in order for him to support model transparency.

Render modes and FX ammount don't seem to be doing much at all.
I ugraded to Steam long before WON died, as I played CS 1.6 beta. I only map SP in WON because I find it easier to do.

:

I'll try copying the dll thing again.

And for you anonymous_guy: Seventh doesn't know anything? At least he has the intelligence not to be a faggot like you. Get a life, Asshole.

PS: Once again, the steam hw.dll and sw.dll just made WON get the error of Engine DLL failed or something....

I'll just make the trees out of brushes... shouldn't affect the r_speeds too much. I hope.

Err, trapt... mapping for SP with Steam is as easy as it was with old Half-Life... I had it set up within minutes... while getting my first map ever to compile was a lot more complicated...

Actually for WON I'd get the DoD transparency DLLs, they should be a bit more compatible.

There's a link at the JHLMV site afaik.

Speaking of Steam and all things shitty, does anyone know why Steam won't work in offline mode anymore. I find this extremely annoying. i'm actually crying right now, and i think i just wet in my pants.

Or just make the transparent tree, fence, whatever has blue on it a "Func_wall" Render mode texture, and the 1-255 thingy 255

Yeah I noticed that too. Hopefully they'll get it straight soon. Every time I see:

"Updating Steam Client...please wait"

I get nervous and annoyed. I think I need more coffee.

Steam is shitty yes, but you need a half decent computer to run it, as it ravages your cpu power, if you're using the same pc you did when you bought half-life, I'd uograde.

And instead of pissing around with dll's and WON, I'd use Steam.

It really is a good program once all the problems have been ironed out.

I used to hate it, because it did thigns like that, but have patience and let it work, it will become your best friend =D

Or you'll destroy the foul sum spawning demon of valve's rotting birth!
