You shouldn't run HLVIS twice. Instead, run HLVIS and HLRAD thereafter. HLRAD will calculate the lighting for your map.

hmm this may sound stupid, but i dont know why it is???

i'm compiling through worldcraft cos i'm too lazy to get that tool...

any method of stopping VIS running twice? :(

When you hit F9, you see a compile dialog. See if under RAD, the Normal radio button is ticked. You should run all programs at least on Normal. You could also set RAD to Extra for some better effect.

Personally I prefer the Expert mode, but that isn't necessary and is probabyly only confusing for you right now.

yeah i know all bout that stuff, i have them all on normal and rad on extra at the mo, but still gettin the error??? i ran it though expert and got a 'missing file' error.

Then you should check if your Game Configuration is set up correctly. I think you've filled the VIS program twice, one being correct and one where you should've referred to the RAD program.

wooooo you were right! but!

whenever i run a map, it now says 'blah blah this programme is not responding' after about 1 second. i tried running it through steam, but it says that it couldn't find a filesystem dll to load????

Run the map manually from the console, using map x, where x is your map's name. When you try and launch Steam HL using Hammer in post-compile, it will give you that filesystem error.
