I got a question about using the sky brushes as windows. In my de_space map,http://cariad.co.za/twhl/mapvault_map.php?id=2299, i have windows on the sides of my hallways looking out into space. You can see the other parts of the map, but something about the sky brush, you can see through the walls through the window. But it only happens to a certain extent then the other parts of the map totally dissappear.(from view). Anyone know how to fix this problem?

if you mean where you can see other brushes through the sky like a window, you cant fix it. But since your using a space sky, try adding the texture on a brush called "BLACK" behind the sky brush, this might fix the see-through look. This would only work on space sky's though..

Didn't mean to cap "BLACK" to mark at you..Thats just what its called.

Correct me if i'm wrong on this:

No, from my testing, that's what happens, it's an engine thing, and it's not fixable.

ARGH. This basically ruins my spyness thing..
(i wanted it set up as though you can see movement through windows) so now im gonna basically put windows on the outside edges of my hallways eh?

Or build parts of teh map taht you can only see from teh windows.
and use trigger_cameras perhaps.

How would i use a trigger camera? and for what purpose?

A sky won't block sight to faces. So whenever you can look at faces that are in the pvs (possible view set), you see these 'trough' your sky.

In fact, I would consider it as a designers 'fault'. Since when you look out of a window and you see the interior of the next hallway, you should normally see the outside of the building... so, as the designer, you should create a wall there instead of just having 'sky' and think that'll do it...

Trigger_camera's are used for cinematics, like in Half-Life when you were carried away by grunts and thrown in the crusher. That was done with a trigger_camera.
In CS, trigger_camera's are used for the several viewpoints you see before the game starts.

Anthony recently wrote a tutorial on it.

ok.. heres the problem
its a space station map, and therefore the sky brush is actually seperating the glass from the window, so see another part across a distance of the void.. so just create a wall?? can you elaborate on that... (lol i dont get it :zonked: )

if your walls are under 16units thin u will see through them if im not mistaken so if u made them thicker then u would see the out side then just dress it up a bit so it looks half decent and in the distance past this u should still see the space

Why don't you create a "space" texture and texture the outside with it? Like black with little white spots, so, at a glance, without CLOSE inspection, it looks like space?

Or convert the space skybox TGAs to BMPs and make 'em into a custom wad.

...which is even easier!

so..make a box around my entire level with this space texture??
THEN get rid of the sky brush..
cool
thanks a bunch :P
