Major problem, I've tried setting up a skybox like the one in the sdk_3d_skybox.vmf example map. Infact I just copied the skybox from there and into my map. Now when I start the game the skybox texture, i.e. the skycamera doesn't just show whats in the skybox, it's shows the whole map!
kinda hard to explain more in depth, please see the screen belox to see what I mean.

Ps. I'm using hammer 4.0.
please help if you have an idea of what might be wrong... The lag this causes is unbearable and I'm one step from completing my great map :(

most of the stuff sticking through look like they're entities of sorts, try looking into that. Also, the sky texture is normally see-through. But I haven't modded for hl2 so i don't know what goes on in it.

Tried making a skybox exactly to those instructions, but somehow it still does the same thing  . the whole map somehow gets "included" in the skybox and appears across the sky.
here's another screen to show what I mean.

Are you sure the sky_camera and it's little box is outside the map in the void?

Sure, I've tried putting it in all kinds of positions in the void. still shows everything. I thought it might be a leak or something causing it so I even put a big hollow box around my map and put the skytexture on that instead, to no avail : . Starting to panik now...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the void turned into sky after you put in a sky setting in Source?

I'm afraid I'm to new to mapping to know what you mean. Been sitting for hours now, trying to figure out whats wrong. Why isn't there a setting to determine the range of the sky camera??!

/sorry just frustration setting in

Did you delete the sky camera entity at 0,0,0 if you did indeed place one there?

Yeah, I bet RabidMonkey777 got the solution. I think chris82 probably has two sky_camera in his map, therefore the problem.

Thanks for trying guys, when I read your post I was sure that that was the problem. Unfortunately it didn't solve it. According to the entity report I only have one sky_camera. To make sure I loaded an old saved map and redid the 3d skybox just to make sure.

Acctually the position of my whole map being drawn on the sky changes position as I move the sky_camera around. If I move it up, above my map in the void, everything is drawn low when I play the map. So it really seems like
it the camera inside the skybox the villain. When I set the camera to fog, my map (drawn on the sky) gets foggy. I'm afraid it's a bit hard to explain this, especially since I don't have the proper terms down yet so I hope you get what I mean.

I'm going to give it a rest now, hope the solution will come in my dreams. :)

It's the darndest thing, cause I can get it to work on other maps. (Of course they arn't as complicated/advanced. I've been working on this particular one for about 2 weeks now :) ). I've noticed that the sky is acctually see-through, I can see into the 3d skybox, and see the little miniature houses from within the game. So no wonder that the skycamera sees more than just what's in the skybox. I'm actually doing everything exactly the way it's set up in the 3d_skybox example map, so I really don't see why it doesn't work!

Anyway, thanks for keeping to try to help me out guys, can't tell you enough how eager I am to solve this mess...

In the past, I've had an issue with an elevator. I simply couldn't get it to work properly. So I just deleted the whole setup and started over from scratch. Of course, it then worked flawlessly.

Sometimes it's easier to re-create than to debug.
