$5,000? That's it? Those people at Valve are cheap bastards.

Look at how much time people are going to put into this map contest. The prize award should be something like $20,000 to $50,000.

They're just using fame (and not fortune) as bait.

Yeah, but its not a bad chunk of cash for entering something you enjoy doing.

So Rabideh, what will the HL2DM mod team do now?
Posted 20 years ago2004-12-01 03:24:06 UTC Post #75707
We'll either release an add-on mappack or split up and work on our own projects or new mods. I've applied to NW and Forsaken so if either accepts, I'll have work to do. If not, I've gotten a few other various offers.

So it depends on the individual member.

You should join the Steam forums, Rabid :)

It's just their way out of actually having to make the maps themselves, the lazy footards.

I had nothing better to do, wrote 'em a rather nasty letter.

I doubt they'll reply.

But then they don't have to get my money for HL3.

Not being able to play has happened to a lot of people. Re-validating your files seems to solve the problem, though. And I've heard there was a new patch to solve the problem so perhaps restarting Steam only would do the job already.

As for the contest... I'd be happy with 5.000 dollar. Some extraordinary amount of money (read: over 5.000) would just be too much for a map, regardless the quality. Or at least that's what I think about it.

HL?DM sucks at the moment anyway, I just tried it.

The GUI's all trashed, the physics are even jerkier than CS:S, you don't get the good ol' crowbar, there are only two maps, and everybody starts with grenades and an SMG (which makes it rather boring).

Then again, Steam does give VALVe an excuse to release crappy unfinished software 'cos they can then patch it whenever they feel like it.

he he true true so very true monkey

i was hoping that they would make it so that you start with crowbar and work your way up by picking weapons off ground and u shud only be able to hold one big gun and grenades

Jerky physics? Jeez, the 'physics simulation' is one of it's main advertised features. Can you really shoot toilets at people?

It's not my computer's problem - Maybe the video card but I doubt it. Physics were a tad jerky, but nothing toooo severe.

There were some NASTY lag spikes, though. And I don't like starting with the weapons - Start w/pistol was much more fun.

dm_overwatch SUCKS in terms of layout - Someone camps with an RPG and kills everyone.

dm_lockdown is great, though.

Nor my computer, the physics just aren't as good. It runs worse than CS:S, too, plus the start-with-armoury noobishness sucks. Plus the screwed-up HUD, but maybe they updated that yesterday.

rabid: you'll have to tell us how that letter goes!!!!
Posted 20 years ago2004-12-02 20:04:02 UTC Post #76039
Tried it with a friend. It actually lagged at 30 ping - pretty annoying. The physics were more than a "tad" jerky, they were useless - We could hardly build a tower of random items. Crapnyess I tell you!

And I agree - starting with gravgun+smg+pistol is lame. Only the pistol would rox0r (and maybe some sort of overpowered crowbar? (yay)).

well i have talked to friends that i know :o and they say that it lags for them which is probably why the physics are jerky for some! It plays well for me as i have a radeon 9800 blah blah which is ok but the game lags slightly

Have any of you played HL2 on a slightly crappy computer? It lags like hell when i did!!

The physics are a bit nasty since theyre prop_physics_multiplayer which puts less strain on teh netcode, I've found.

I thought most physics for multiplayer Source games were solely client-side and unsynchronised? My friend and I certainly found that on CS:S (corpses).
