Hello everyone. I got to thinking, TWHL would be much better known if we had a server on steam. I would be more than willing to host a TWHL 24-7 server, but I wouldn't be able to do it until mid January. Just a thought, tell me if its a good idea.

The host computer im planning on using is 1gb of ram 700mhz 40-50 gig HD space. It will be dedicated and run a dedicated server.

The internet connection I will use is 1.54gb ADSL. The server will run Linux (or maybe even Unix or Solaris ) since Windows is complete shit. Really, the main idea is to "advertize" TWHL and the awsome maps that the users create.

yeah, we really need a server. we've been chasing round for a hldm server for a while, and now that hl2dm is here, we should focus on it. one rule that i would love to put in force for this server, is NO BLOODY GIMMICK MAPS! no "alyxbasketball" or "sawblade". the only maps on the server should be custom made maps from the TWHL community.

Ok guys, i've got more info on the computer: I'll have it by Jan 3rd, but I have to install steam and linux on it, there is a lot of configuration so that it will work with the router properly, so it'll be up and running by, id say, Jan 20th if all goes well. Once I get it and see what I have to work with, i'll tell ya guys. If one of the admins were to post the IP on the news board once I get it going, we could have tons of people coming to it, members or not, because im
sure that unregistered people come here all the time. I keep ya posted.

Yes, the computer will havea a static IP, and the router is not wireless, i hate wireless to also. NEVER DM_OVEWATCH OR LOCKDOWN, only TWHL maps, which bring me to my next point, WE ALL BETTER GET OUR ASSES TO WORK ON SOME HL2DM MAPS, THERE AREN'T MANY HERE YET.

Your computer is too weak to run a HL2DM server. You need more RAM. And, Solaris on your computer, don't make me laugh lol! Solaris for x86 is sadly, rubbish. It's only worth it if you use SPARC architecture, which I doubt you could ever afford. Get a faster computer and more RAM, get Linux (or FreeBSD), then decide on making a server.
