I have this problem and I dont think anyones fixed it but I think its due to a lower spec computer.

Not sure if this is relevent but back when I used to play Star Wars Galaxies, when i first got the game and went to make my own character, the faces were pitch black for some of the races. I went and got the latest drivers for my vid card and it cleared it right up.

It's a graphics card problem. I have the same thing (running a GeForce 4 at the moment). Your only choices are to purchase a better card (Radeon 9800 Pro ought to do the trick 
) or wait for VALVe, or your GFX card manufacturer to release a patch.

but my grafix card is ati radeon which was said in hl2 to be the best recommended version for it.

If it's 64mb vRAM, that's not going to cut it.
If it's 64mb RAM, that's way below HL2's spec as well.
I reckon that your card is 64mb, though, and that's probably why. Wait for a fix or upgrade are your options D:

"60Gigabytes of ram" I wish! I have a onboard 256 mb memory and a 64 MB internel graphics driver which is anouth for me without any major problems.

There's the problem: Internal Graphics Cards are very, very crappy.
256mb of RAM isn't so crash hot either. Try and grab another 256megs worth.

Dollars, I'd say $250-300 for a decent one (that's just a rough conversion from the Sterling, don't know if computer stuff's cheaper/more expensive o'er the pond) or ?150-200.

Actually, I think it's a DirectX 9 related issue. I run a GeForce 4000 MX too, and it has a hardware support of DirectX up to version 7, and I have the same issue. Updating to a video card that supports DX9 in hardware is the solution I think would work - a Radeon 9600 XT is a good budget card with such a functionality.

It's not as powerful, but it packs a lower price tag and is definately a step up from the respectable but underpowered GeForce 4000 MX.
