I've got a question regarding Worldcraft and the tutorial for setting it up. I have HL installed through steam and I only have one of the .wad files listed to add in it.

ty for the help, I have my computer searching for *.wad if it doesn't find the other files I need, what would be the best place to search online for them?(I'm doing just hldm if anyone is wondering)

I apologize for double posting but the only file it found was tempdecal.wad which I just double checked the tutorial and that isn't even one of the ones I need

u need to have half life installed along with counterstrike and opposing forces if possible, the wads should be in the game data folders, are you trying to find the fgd files, or the texture wads?
Posted 19 years ago2005-03-08 19:32:42 UTC Post #95945
the texture wads, and I can't find my half-life cd to install it again.

ok ya got steam, do a search on the valve folder in program files for "wad" and see what it comes up with, you definitly should have hl.wad in there

if you can play half life then you definitly have this wad, cause it holds the textures for the single player game

GCFScape. This has been mentioned quite a few times, I think.

I just did a search of only the valve folder and the only thing it foudn was tempdecals.wad
Posted 19 years ago2005-03-08 19:39:32 UTC Post #95952

and dandyli0n` what's GCFScape for? will it help me either get those files back or find them for me?

The game files are stored in Game Caches, which are aptly extensioned with GCF. They are stored in steamapps. GCFScape opens them and lets one extract standard game content.

Mirror'd >_>

Thanks for the help, I'll try GCFScape when I get home from school, and I didn't see the Steam Tutorial, sorry about that.

RabidMonkey777, the link you have works but I think it's missing some files cuz it won't open.
Posted 19 years ago2005-03-09 19:34:28 UTC Post #96072
do you have Microsoft .NET framework?
Posted 19 years ago2005-03-09 23:44:42 UTC Post #96097
I thought I did, but apparently I didn't cuz I had to dl it. And I've gotten GCFScape open, but it only let me extract the decals.wad file, but won't extract the other ones, xenos.wad, liquids.wad, halflife.wad
am I doing something wrong?

No, it takes a while, though, considering they're fairly large. Give it a mo'.

when I try to extract the halflife.wad file using GCFscape, here' what it tells me:

C:Program FilesValveSteamSteamAppshalf-life.gcf loaded.
Extracting to C:Program FilesValveSteamSteamAppsgarion_oldwolfhalf-lifevalve.
Error writing C:Program FilesValveSteamSteamAppsgarion_oldwolfhalf-lifevalvehalflife.wad (Failed to write all physical data.)
Done.

What's causing that?
