I have been using Hammer 3.3 for quite a while now.
1. Are there any more recent updates, if yes, then how do these updates effect Hammer?
2. Are there any alternative programs that can perform the same task as Hammer Editor?

There is Hammer 3.4 and 3.5 beta (which will undoubtedly never be updated).
They make it better, that's what.

Quark is one. Notepad is another. Not much else out there that is supported anymore...

Quark and Radiant are the two others, but hammer is the most popular one.

No, it is actually possible but it would be the equivalent of us trying to read "The Matrix" code. :hecu:

the equivalent of us trying to read "The Matrix" code.
It's not 'too' hard.. heh

It's just a bit impractical.. Open up a vmf/rmf sometime and figure the formatting out. I've made a box room before :>

Your brain does the translating for you. By now I don't even see the code, just blonde... brunette... redhead...

Fix'd.

Actually, in text, "brushes" don't exist. Just faces and vertex coordinates with a corresponding texture before the coordinates.
