I know I've been mapping too much when I see a vent cover on a real building and wonder if I could break it with a crowbar.

Well you should see the William Parker G-Man. I'll try an' get a photo of him sometime. He's tall, with a narrow face, always wears a blue suit, and has a suspicious manner. Sound familiar? Maths teacher.

This thread is absolutly great! There's something I've thought of:

-When you want to change the track on your stereo and you aim for the button 30secs, becouse you might 'use' the wrong one

-When you open a door and wonder how they've made the handle rotate while opening

-When you're witnessing an important event and you search for the F5 key to get screenshots

-When you're in a train and try all the seats to see if the background out of the train is made of shrunken brushes and models (remember Op4 opening scene?)

-When you hear high quality stereo sound and ask if they've used multiple ambient_generics or improved the sound engine

-When you see a rope and think: "I wonder if they've ripped the code from Op4... I'll try if it's climbable!"

-When you're in an elevator and try to 'use' the whole button pad (not sure if it's called that way), believing it will take you to the preselected path_corner

-You're at school and have an important test to make. Unexpectedly great idea popes in your mind and start making sketches of the map on your test-page

-When you reallize that on the turn-off button of you computer is a symbol really similar to lambda (I've been playing Op4 and Civ3 for 14 hours, now the button doesn't look that way...)

-When you ask your parents if these jokes are funny and they don't even know what is path_corner or texture

-When you plan building and decorating work in Hammer.
-When Hammer.exe is in your startup group in Windows.
-When your most used program in the XP start menu is Hammer and Half-Life (not guilty, I use 2000).
-When your car number plate is "SomeNumber MAP".
-When you have a screeny of Hammer as your wallpaper in Windows (not guilty!)

It actually makes sense to plan out decorations or changes to your house or building projects with Hammer/Worldcraft. Its pretty accurate.

Lol. True, just make textures of your wall paper or paint color and floor and anything that needs texturing. I'm pretty sure I could make a realisitc map of my house.

i can make a dm map for school
Posted 20 years ago2004-05-08 17:03:19 UTC Post #26099
You kidding??!? And what dimensions you're going to use for your house? Don't tell me 1unit=2inches. But actually it's far from accurate and you can never make a proper design with smallest object 2inches... Unless you use models, but then youd better use 3Dmax (or Gmax if you don't have the money to spare). Hey this brings me to something!

-If you think that the creators of Gmax where HL mappers and they've mapped too much (Gmax...Gman, just one character in difirence)

-When you're one of the Gmax creators and called it this way because of the Gman

-When you get the el.power usage bill and realize that most of it is because of your computer running nonstop and increased processor usage due to often compiling

-When you get the water usage bill and it's incredably small sum, because you've almostly not used the bath
Posted 20 years ago2004-05-08 17:10:04 UTC Post #26100
You've been playtesting too much when you move your hand to move the mouse when someone ticks you on the shoulder. (Wich has happened once to me... :))

-When you run HL and other games in window, so you can immediately start new map if good idea occurs in your mind while playing

-When you make a user-modified version of Linux, that runs Hammer all the time and the background is actually a Hammer window

-When you steal the HL2 source, so people can keep mapping for HL1 and your maps are always recent (oops, I think I shouldn't have said this one... :( )

-When you put Lambda as your My Computer icon and call you harddrive containing HL "Half-Drive"

-When you logged on 28 diffirent machines just to vote for HL at the GameGrudge (planethalflife)

-When you have remade all HL SP maps without decompiling (man, thats alot of work)

-When you're a modteam member

-When you have a hammer drawn on all your notebooks

-If you think that the communist coat of arms is inspired from VHE (Worldcraft)

-When you intend to change your wallpapper or paint color (of Windows or in your room) and try to press Shift+A to bring up the Texture Application Tool

-When see a pretty girl (or boy, whatever you prefer) on the street and the firs compliment that comes in your mind is "Your model is really HiDef"

-When you actually have said this to someone (I can almost see the look on his/her face! )

-When you look at the water in your bathroom and think: How did they simulate that fluid?

-When you look at the horizon and wonder how many polygons you view, and how your eyes can handle it without dropping to an extremely low framerate...

guilty. actually i dream about mapping and wake up, go onto the map and find i didnt make the changes i thought i had. very annoying.

- You make maps of places like your school.
yep, me and blueblade were working on that for about 2 weeks, and it looked pretty good too, but we were afraid that if some1 found out, we would get it :P
Posted 20 years ago2004-05-10 17:52:05 UTC Post #26361
and i am also guilty of concept mapping

and for any newbs on this site, NEVER MAP, IT WILL KILL YOU SLOWLY (if you have slow r_speeds, lol) IT WILL CONSUME ALL OF YOUR TIME! IT IS VERY VERY VERY ADDICTIVE, IT WILL BE ALL YOUR MIND THINKS OF FOR A LOOOOONNNGGGGGGG TIME, SO, STOP MAPPING IF YOU CAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted 20 years ago2004-05-10 18:04:34 UTC Post #26371

Posted 20 years ago2004-05-10 18:42:38 UTC Post #26388
Its not that addictive dude. For me at least. Its a hobby for me. As are a ton of other things. And I have an EXTREME imagination. Give me place and I will spend day/ weeks making a map just off the word "park" and such. Seriously though, dont try to get me to map what you want. Map it yourself! Arr!
