Just watched the new Half-Life 2 trailer from the E3 2004.
It's so f**king cool. They also showed a short clip of CS 2.

This game will set new standards.
Posted 20 years ago2004-05-21 17:08:49 UTC Post #28102
"CS 2" will actually be the Halflife official multiplayer :o

Its a cool video, really low-res though (the 1 i watched :P)
Posted 20 years ago2004-05-21 17:33:00 UTC Post #28117
it wont really set new standards anymore, there are a few games wihc uses the havok engine right now. like farcry
Posted 20 years ago2004-05-22 05:30:00 UTC Post #28174
Yes, but who made the engine? :P
Posted 20 years ago2004-05-22 05:44:06 UTC Post #28176
You forget new standards of implementing physics engines into gameplay, Pepper. And standards of interactivity with NPC's... :)
Posted 20 years ago2004-05-22 06:41:08 UTC Post #28177
jsut to say, it isnt as revolutionair as it was a year ago.
Posted 20 years ago2004-05-22 06:54:14 UTC Post #28179
Less impressive doesn't mean less revolutionary. Other games, like Far Cry, while graphically very impressive, aren't that amazing really. HL? (I love superscript) has graphical abilities comparable but has (we pray) better AI, more impressive maps, physics, et cetera.

At least it has a lot more possibilities to express your own idea's, less limits! And maybe that's even the most interesting... :)
Posted 20 years ago2004-05-22 09:50:38 UTC Post #28217
is it gonna come with its own mapping program? sumthin that can handle the graphics and show you wtf you are actually looking at. like instead of looking at a green box? or can you already do that?

Green boxes? What are you talking about? Have you turned on the texture mode in the 3D-view already instead of flatshaded mode?
Posted 20 years ago2004-05-22 14:21:56 UTC Post #28241
not the texture! like the point based entitys! like the player start!

You can see the models already! Use the newest Half-Life beta and FGD (here)and unpack the models! Voila' models in Hammer.
Looking forward to the new Hammer, apparently you can see all the lighting without having to compile.

The models include info_player_start and all the monster ones.

Its so fricken realistic. Like in the "Trapcity" movie, they show the guy run into a room. Press use to close the door, and the push a table in front of the door so the person can get it. That is until they shoot the door open(or kick im iside so I dont see). You run up the stairs and then block them off by throwing a bed mattress at a pile of junk using a new type of "gun". Next your out on a roof and first you shoot this crane thing and it starts swinging - and killing all the people bleow. Some more rush out of an alley and then you throw a grenade at this train cart, it tips over and crushes the rest of the opposition. Finally you go down and go into one of the "alleys" and get to this one section where you kill one guy. You run to this blade thing and by hitting it, it causes it to swing slightly making a squeaking noise as it turns little by little. Then zombie things start coming from everywhere. Once they get close you find a switch on the fan thing to turn it on. It takes care of most of the opposition with and awsome blood spray. But it didn't kill one, one is crawling at you without a pair of legs (AWSOME!). You run a little and then more are coming from this street. You shoot a cars gas tank thing (im assuming thats where the shot went all i know is you shot the car) and it explodes making the car fly forward killing all the zombies there either by the awsome fire or the impaling of the car. Then it ends.
LOL, I went a lil farther with that then I was expecting too. If anyone wants a sequel with the other things described tell me :D I was just awstruck at the amazing ness of that! Hey if anyone knows of anything else awsome about it please share. I heard the game was supossed to come out in July, is that right?

I saw it on the internet at where they are Marketing it. Go to yahoo.com and click on games. THere should be an add at the top that has HL2 Halo2 and other 2s, click on it. Then, type Half-Life 2 in the textbox on their website, and 2 matches will be found. One, for PC, and one, for X-box ;)

Contrary to a recent report printed in the Puget Sound Business Journal, Valve still has concrete plans to release Half-Life 2 for the Xbox. Amy Farris, PR manager at Vivendi Universal Games, has confirmed that Valve's Xbox release plans haven't changed in the month since the developer announced Half-Life 2 for Microsoft's console. Valve is currently working on the PC version of the game, and details on the Xbox version will be released at a later date

In reaction to Pepper about the scripting part:
Everything (well, the most impressive stuff) shown at E? 2003 was scripted. From the combines kicking in doors till the strider limbo-ing under the bridge (the strider even had his own limbo animation). It is very well possible that Valve is working on a revolutionary artificial intelligence but they didn't showed it at the E? 2003 and I'm even not sure about the E? 2004. I just hope most of the scripting will be gone when HL? (I love alt + 253) gets released. :

HL2 ON XBOX?!?!?! It will work, in 648x480:P
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-01 12:30:26 UTC Post #29698
Mike, can you proof that statement that the E3 stuff was scripted?

As far as I know the AI was given hints, by some sort of info_nodes. So, according to my information it wasn't scripted. It was especially said this strider ducking under the bridge was NOT scripted but AI. So I don't know what your source of information is?

Besides, why would Valve state they're working on revolutionary AI, that they'll be doing away with scripted action, and show us scripted stuff? I think some stuff will be scripted but probably only the necessary parts, like when a player needs to get some information from a NPC.

Heh, we'll find out the truth when the game is released... :)

hehe, read this month pc zone benelux, a interesting article about hl2 eich i think is valve biggest archivemnt of folling people, when they where able to test the new level they werent 'allowd' to go to some areas of the map because they where not done and would 'crash' the game. a german reporter tryed and hl2 crashed, and they had a valve guy beside them when they played so they had to follow a specified route, sound kinda........censored to me
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-01 12:49:17 UTC Post #29702
I can't see what the point in lying is. As soon as people bought the game, everyone'd say "they lied!" and no-one else would buy it. If they don't claim it, no-one's unhappy.

Except for all the mappers.

So what? We won't be cencored when the game is released. If Valve lied, they risk a lot... they risk too much to lie.

You may not have a lot of confidence left in Valve but that doesn't mean everything they say or do is wrong.

Let's just rest it and wait for the release.

Posted 20 years ago2004-06-01 13:21:29 UTC Post #29705
The summer... But, as Rick Ellis from VALVe said: "We mark Summer's start and end somewhere between Jan 1st and Dec 31st..." :P
