Have you had any bad AOL experiences?

I have only used AOL once in my life nad it was a trial but my friend used to use it. It was crap for games because every 5 minutes it would minimize and it was just a general pain.

PS. If you dont like my threads..........DON'T POST HERE! :tired:

I live in the US. I actually never heard MB as a unit for internet speed, we have K (dial-up is 56K) so i can't actually tell you. But it runs well enough, and a test i took about you online speed says this comp has 502(kilobits per second) what ever the hell that means, and a on a chart it is somewhere between 300K and 700K. Sorry, I know that was usless, but it was the best i could do.

no actually thats pretty much what I wanted. I always thought that in America you were so far ahead of us in terms of technology. It Kb terms my speed is 2100k!

U guys in america still get stuff loads checper than us though! :nervous:

here in the US we have better stuff then the french

sucky:
28Kb/s dial up
56Kb/s dial up (what I unfortunately have)

normal:
500-700Kb/s DSL
1500kb/s Optical line(a new one)
3000kb/s Cable

even better:
1500Kb/s (both upstream and downstream) Deticated T1 lines
45000Kb/s deticated T3 lines

Completly insane:
155000Kb/s Optical Carrier(OC)-3 lines
622000Kb/s OC-12 lines
2488000Kb/s OC 48 lines
(some insane number) Oc-192 lines

AOL...

Don't get me started...

My parents got AOL cause they didn't know how to work a computer... I have to go help them with it occasionally... pretty frustrating since with their evil silly dial-up, and AOL (Filled with pointless Temporary Memory eating pictures and popups) it takes 10 minutes to do ANYTHING.... Erg...

I hate AOL...

I despise AOL...

AOL will burn...

I will destroy AOL...

AOL will be destroyed...

buurrnn.....

errg...

Heh, AOL is one of those generic evil-doers known on the internet, such as EA, Windows and so on. We don't have it in cold sweden.

Anywho, here in sweden we have quite good internet connections...
You can get 100mbit/s for 320 kr (roughly ?23) a month, and private 1gbit/s lines for alot more.

Companies ofcourse get alot more.

Hmmm, those numbers looked weird(Garg's chart) so i checked again on the same website, and I have 4458Kbps soo, I don't know how good this internet checker is(http://www.cable-modem.net). Sorry about the check. By the way, we live in Pennsulvannia, and have Adelphia Cable Internet. I doubt it is world wide, even state wide, but it is big in Pennsulvannia.

My major gripe with AOL is the stupidity of its users. 98.8% of all AOLers are complete and utter retards. Seriously, a typical conversation would go like this:

n00b: HIHIHIH WANNA CHAT ASL
Me: No. Go away.
n00b: Y
Me: Because I said so.
n00b: ASL
Me: No!
n00b: BITCH

I want Earthlink.

I agree. Anyone with half a brain would've picked another ISP.

Back in the days when I had modem, I had an ISP called Hawk Communications. They're dirt cheap ($5 a month), and the service was great.

For some reason ANY AOL stories make me cringe. On the subject of crap ISPs

Back in the mid 90s I had Compuserv, this was back when you had a telephone call to pay on top of your ISPs subscription....ended up ?300 in dept to compuserv, and similar sized bill for BT. The land line went, and God alone knows what happened to this compuserv debt. I missed out on a good 5-10 years internet though, which sucked balls.... :

AOL stories huh? I personally don't have any AOL stories myself, fortunately.
m0p m0pIllogical.

Man people in sweden get it lucky. You sure its 1gb/s though? That would have to be private, fibre optics!. (as in a whole line for yourself!) ;)

In the UK we're always slow to take up things. Our government have just started to use computers!

1gb ? bollocks. seriously...

i mean, 4mb was titled 'true broadband' only last year. You would have to have a whole server completely to yourself for a gig.

i have 2.4mb NTL

I get my connection for free, but don't ask how ;)
generic evil-doers known on the internet, such as EA
you're gonna hate me for this;
hehe... I invested most of my money in EA... Paid off ;)

oh, and AOL users are not retarded...
They use AOL because they don't really have a mind for computers, and its pretty much the easiest ISP to have. Its the most user friendly out there...

When I talked my parents into getting rid of it, I immediatly got them back on it, because they called me every ten minutes asking how to do something or another...

erg...

I hate it...

But I cannot live peacefully without it...

Kinda like some kind of evil CyberDrug...

oh, and AOL users are not retarded...
I take it you've never had an internet conversation with an AOL user, then. It's not their decision on what ISP to get that makes them retarded. Its their general lack of intelligence when communicating to you through IM.

um...

the typical AOL user is either Middle Aged, or "Old", so they obviously wouldn't be Instant Messaging anyone...

OMG!!

How do I turn overtype mode off! TELL ME NOW!!!

Bredbandsbolaget offered 1gbit/s for people living within a certain radius of their stations some time ago. Can't remember the cost, I think it was like 50%+ on the monthly cost for your 100mbit connection.
Posted 19 years ago2005-11-01 21:53:06 UTC Post #144797
There's also a DS-1 connection witch is equal to a 24 indivudual dial-up line
Posted 19 years ago2005-11-01 22:09:27 UTC Post #144798
ya, but DS-1 is the AOL of super high speed. its for lazy people.

Its only for those who won't spend the extra 100 a month to get an OC3

and ZL, 1gbit/s is insane, even 100Mbit is insane. thats 2/3 of an OC-3 line. and they cost over $20000 a month. I dought any ISP ever made would ever even thing about giving away that amount of bandwidth

http://www.bredbandsbolaget.se/portal/PRIVAT_BREDBAND_LAN_BREDBAND+100

Their 1 gbit services have been removed since Telenor bought BBB (Damn norweigans), but other ISPs still offer it.

Edit: Also, 1 SEK (kr) = ca 0.075 USD.

The only reason you get 1gb speed is because you have to be pretty damn close to the servers.
Posted 19 years ago2005-11-02 17:02:20 UTC Post #144894
Everything about AOL is a bad experience. And its always slow, no matter how fast your computer is. Its the worst memory hog Ive ever seen. I actually managed to make it use over 1GB of memory.
Posted 19 years ago2005-11-02 17:59:07 UTC Post #144926
OMG that sucks.. how the hell did u manage that? my PCs slow no matter what i put on it
