Ok i lied basically. I have a new DM map in the works. Dm_shard
There's no inspiration other than i looked at the Font from halo, and made a platform... then a bunch of walls and yeah...
Lots of glass.. enclosed space with slime and stuff.

Have the basic layout COMPLETE and now on to the detailing...

I was asked by our medical group to share my hobbies with everyone. Little do they expect to have a hardcore gamer among them.

I am planning to talk about my level design experience and demonstrate my various mapping projects. I'll illustrate the process of mapping.

Here is a brief outline:
  • Background
  • played video games since I was 9 years old
  • hiatus during college and medical school
  • started mapping with a map editor in 2004
  • got paid $1,000 by a site to write mapping tutorials
  • dm_detritus
  • the mapping process
  • development screenshots
  • cs_justice
  • inspired by the Santa Barbara Courthouse
  • vacation with my wife
  • courthouse tour by the county architect/blueprint
  • comparison photos
  • Maps by fellow designers
  • Kasperg's Kauffman House
  • Kasperg's Serene
  • World Trade Center in New York
  • Appreciation of the real world
  • GamingParents website
  • HealthConnect tie-in

Well
I basically lost all inspiration for any type of mapping whatsoever.
Half-Life 1 Has run it's course with me.
I don't have the time to learn or use source the way i want to.
I dont have the drive to make anything worth while anymore.
So i think i'm just going to stop mapping all together and enjoy games from a consumer perspective.

I've been spending a lot (almost too much time) just wondering how some effects were created in different games, and to be honest, it's not even worth pondering.

I have to utilize my time wiser and not mapping will surely give me some extra time to do more constructive things.

Things such as have a better social life, get tighter with the band because we have a lot of shows booked and if we're going ANYWHERE with it, we need to be spot-on with everything.
Finish painting my "Halo Themed Bike" (Pictures when it's finished if im still hanging around the site)
Fix my truck.... Work more... Succeed in college.

Bah.

They say they always come back. And i will be back.

I just dont think i'll be mapping anymore.
So

Until next time.

Farewell

Laptop ain't back yet (should be ready next week sometime), but all the stuff I wanted to get done on it is getting done (and at no charge), so kudos to that lovely AppleCentre.

Just for giggles: getting a new logic board (it's what Apple calls their motherboards), a new LCD panel, and a new topcase (the surface that houses the keyboard and trackpad).

I will never touch Source again, with Unreal Editor 3, Torque Game Engine, and CryENGINE, I won't even look at it. HL2 lighting, game play, and physics are way too outdated and Unreal 3 Engine has just about the best damn graphics on the planet. That was the stuff they used to create games like Gears of War; incredible graphics and lighting.

Not only that, but Source has way too many bugs and I just don't have enough freedom to make what I want in it. Constant leaks, AI scripting errors, slow loading times no matter how wisely you spend your budget; I just don't have enough patience or time to deal with it.

FF is starting to go better then I thought, I seem to work better at night, so If I keep that up, then more funny things will be in FF. Oh, and thanks to Kc8Kjp telling me a little bit about short surfaces, I should have not as many since I know what they are now. :sarcastic:
