WWZ wrapped last night. The director made a moving speech and I managed to shake his hand, then regretted it almost immediately when I remembered he had directed Quantum of Solace.

Regardless, I had an insane amount of fun working on this, and I can't wait to see the finished product. Getting more working days and more money than I expected was nice too, as well as finding footage on youtube of me pushing Brad Pitt.

Now begins the oddly compelling task of finding myself in press photos...

Since Thursday last week, I have been waking up at 03:30 to arrive on set for 05:00 and then working until around 20:00, plus a further hour travelling back home.
I then eat a quick meal, go to bed and get up at 03:30 to begin again.

I literally have no concept of the world around me at this stage.

How the fuck satchmo copes with hours like these regularly, what with him being a doctor, I have no idea.

Anyway, just a brief shout since I haven't been around. Back on set tomorrow, but I get Sunday off before beginning the following week.

On the plus side, I'm getting paid shitloads more than I originally was going to because I'm in a more important role, hense why I'm needed every day.
I've also been physically 3D mapped which involved standing on a rotating wheel while cameras captured me in various poses in 360 degrees, followed by some sort of laser depth thing which projected a grid onto me to map the depth in my clothes and stuff. Totally crazy and awesome stuff.

Rambling now because I'm about to die from sleep deprivation. Night Night.

First day of WWZ filming.
Up at 04:00 to get into Glasgow city centre for a 05:00 call time. Filming will continue until 19:00 and this schedule repeats for the next 4 days. Hnng.

I really wish I could show you photos - it's incredibly odd seeing American road signs, car license plates and posters all over the city centre right next to regular UK road signs and cars and posters.
They even have those weird American traffic lights.

"All cameras including phone cameras are strictly prohibited from any sets."
I think they'll find it difficult to film WWZ without a camera. (trollface.gif)

edit:
Found a photo from when they were first cordoning off the area. There are a lot more changes since this was taken, but I thought I'd put together a comparison with the google earth image.

Can you guess which one is which?

edit2:

I totally forgot, George Square has a live webcam feed. I don't know if it'll be disabled during filming, but it's still live now (05:07)

Now getting very excited. Found out I was short-listed for a role in Brad Pitt's upcoming film World War Z on Monday. Today I found out that I've definitely been picked and I've got a costume fitting on the 2nd August.

£1040 ($1702) for 8 days "work", plus the ability to say I've been in a Brad Pitt film.

SUPER EXCITE!

Pretty gutted at the same time, though, because I went to the casting with Daubster, who travelled all the way from Dundee to Glasgow specifically for the casting and he has heard nothing back so far :(

I'll be sure to bring my camera along with me for some behind the scenes action, assuming it doesn't get taken off me (which it might).
Stay tuned for updates.

Back from holiday! yaaay!
Going to go meet Daubster tomorrow in Glasgow. He's down for a casting event we're both going to for an upcoming Brad Pitt film being filmed in Scotland.
In the meantime, check out some of the things I did on holiday (vacation, for the Americans)

Went into shop, acquired nice shirt with £24.99 price tag. Till was broken & cashier entered £4.99 by accident. Poker face. Saved £20.

Mega congrats to Urby who got married yesterday for the third time.
The Buddhist ceremony was beautiful and the happy couple shared the first dance to Black Eyed Peas - The Time (Dirty Bit) before driving off into the sunset in a sunflower yellow Ford Explorer.
I'm sure he's too hungover to post anything himself for a couple of days, so let's leave him some nice messages here for when he comes back :)

I recently made a £120 investment toward a more professional sound-recording setup, not only for better sound in my vlogs, but also because I want to do more music-related stuff and of course voice acting which I enjoy immensely.

I received a few e-mails asking what the mic I'm now using is and figured that some of you might be interested as well - after using it for a few weeks I could not recommend any of this kit more. I love it.

So the mic is a Samson CO1U. It cost around £70 with postage (it's heavy) and it was a tough decision choosing this - a USB mic - instead of a powered XLR mic. Obviously for the best audio recording you don't want to be able to hear computer fan noise in the background, so a USB mic seems like a very poor call. I decided to go for it so I could more easily use it for vlogging, though, and I got a 6m USB cable so that for any proper audio recording I can be very far away from the PC.
It really is a fantastic mic, with a simple switch allowing 3 seperate responses (omni, figure-8 or super-cardioid) and it also has a -10db bass cut switch as well which I used in my review of The Citizen 2 to minimise the fan noise from the PC and it seemed to work splendidly.

I mount the mic on a SAMSON SP01 suspension mount. It's compact, easy to position and works exactly as it should. It's also made very solidly. I feel like I could throw it against a wall and the wall would come out of it worse off. It set me back about £35.

I was originally going to buy a very cheap pop shield, but decided that since I'm spending so much on the rest, I don't want to cheap-out on something which could potentially ruin the whole ensemble, so rather than the fragile plastic alternative, I went for the metal-bodied SAMSON PS01. Nice naming technique, huh? It's pretty much identical to the suspension mount. Anyway, as with the rest this seems fantastic. The metal frame is tough and solid feeling, and the neck is very flexible allowing it to be positioned exceptionally easily. It cost me around £15.

All of this is mounted on Tiger Stands generic "Microphone Stand Boom" which... Well, it's a stand. It works nicely. £15.

It all feels great to use and I've already received plenty of positive feedback about the improvement, so I'm really glad I splashed out on this and if any of you are planning to do the same, I hope you get some benefit from this review.

Valve today announced that Portal 2 - the sequel to the ground-breaking title that won over 30 game of the year awards, despite missing its original ship date - will now be available the week of April 18th, 2011. This two month slip not only marks the shortest delay in Valve's proud tradition of delays, it represents the approaching convergence of Valve Time and Real Time. Though this convergence spells doom for humanity, it will not affect the new Portal 2 release date.

Man, mapping for Alien Swarm is messing with my head.

Everything I've spent years learning in terms of optimisation and scale is being turned on its head.

All world geometry is converted to func_detail during the compiling process so you have to make a massive box around the map (SHOCK) and tie it to an entity in order for it to not be tied to an entity upon compile.

Walls are ~160 high (HORROR)

i need to lie down.
