The mine idea failed because I couldn't handle making a displacement that completely sorrounds the player. I'd like to make an out door map, but that will require trees and bushes and things.. We'll see how that goes I just installed counter-strike source again and it won't be long until I install the SDK.

It seems that after every major map release I quit, so possibly it is time for me to come back and start on my next success.

Next Project: :D

Okay so I was brainstorming today on what to do for my next map, and I am glad to say I think I've got one! I started working on a map (name not final) but it has to do with a mine. After spending half an hour on a very small section of the mine I'm thinkin that it's going to need a more constructed type area (without everything being a displacement).

DE_Bedroom released. I'm basically just tired of working on it ><

I never did get my custom sounds to work but I'm tired of waiting for compiles to get done so I'm just leaving them out :(

Next project? No idea. A friend wants to do a joint mapping project to make our suburbs "down town" section. No idea if I'm going to even try it though because it will be extremly challenging. It would be about 6-8 blocks worth of buildings and I don't know if computers could even handle a map of such scale.

De_Bedroom has made a lot of progress since those screenshots! I learned how to make reflective / see through textures so I tried my best to model my actual lamp (where the fan was in the 1.6 version -.-)

This brought some problems with the lighting because instead of having the light come from the four corners (making nice, but very unrealistic lighting) I had to get the same effect but make it come from a certain point, I ended up creating 3 very large spot lights pointing down and with some fine tuning its starting to shape up.

The textures alone are about 12 MB, the map 2.5MB, and I am planning on adding custom sounds to the map which will probably take it over15 MB (Making it hard to spread on Steam but I still hope people will like it because its basically ALL custom textures (except for like one or two).

Look forward to seeing me post it in the vault soon, it just needs some play testing and final touches now :D

Whatever skill I use to have at mapping is gone with Source lol. I can't seem to duplicate to realism of other peopls maps and all I can make is blocky bad maps that look like their from HL1. I dunno maybe my maps werent even good back then but oh well. I've tried to make a couple maps for source but ... It gets so frusterating because about half way through the map I just look at what I made and imagine what comments I'd get from it.

I came back for a visit today because I was thinking about my de_bedroom map again the other day.. To bad I lost the most recent version.

Anyway I looked at some of my forum post and comments and I was really immature with some of them, I guess I didn't take critisizm very well, and I am sorry for all that I may have insulted or argued with.

Its been fun since I first joined TWHL, but it is just getting old. Peace everyone.

*Update January 18 2005*
For those who want to know, one of the main reasons was when Andy said something in an email that just made me think why I was going here. It wasn't because of mapping anymore, I stopped mapping a long time ago. This site was a site for new comers to mapping, and I was not new to it. I decided that all my accusations of newbie maps and all the things many TWHL veterans said were wrong. Now you ask, why am I writing this now? I have to check back on the place I spent a good portion of my life at :P . I have to say I was quite dissapointed by the fact that the only update was "a new TWHL forum", but it wasn't a new thing. Peace out

OK, so everyone has been talking about TWHL going downhill, and now is the verticle slope. IRC has been so polluted that now we have a whole nother channel for spam. The forums are spammed, messy, and dirty, and nothing is being done about it.

I have actually devoted some time to thinking about what can be done about all of this.

There is nothing that we can do against the IRC issues unless we have punishments for spamming members. In my opion the best way to deal with this is to make an intra-site chat room so that it can be moderated using peoples accounts. Their accounts will have IP tracking to prevent multiple accounts. Punishments need to be set up for members who dissobey. Turning this site into a "do one thing wrong and your banned", though, is not where I want this to go to. Using punishments from taking away posting rights for a day to the severeness of being banned from the site for a week is where it should go. People will not stop if it continues like this, you can say whatever and do whatever you want and nothing will happen. EX) MoP / Jardaarsi hack into and screw with THWL's host cariad, so what if their posts and maps got deleted, nothing happened.

For the forums, if people don't like bad language, get word filters for the forums, or at least have a setting for each user to have word filtering on or off. We need a no flamming policy that is not to strict, but is enforced in bad situations (Anon / Palo). People get in a fight which ends up in spam which ends up with people not being happy. Having anonymous posting is a bad thing, because people cannot be punished in the ways that I have described.

Newbs are always going to come, go on their 5 map a day spree, and after about a month get better. It happens. Flamming them, doing bad things to them, it does not get rid of them most of the time, and it does not teach them anything. We should have an official page on this site that explains problems with newbs in the past and what you should NOT act like on this site. That way when there is a newb that is annoying the hell out of all of us, we can redirect them to that page and ask them to please stop.

Having good moderators, using the idea's that I have listed should make this site new and improved. Hopefully this will make sense to people who read this, and I would actually like it if someone commented on it in an email, explain if you think this is the right way or not.

Im just getting too tired of mapping. I have started like two maps, made one room (or in the cities case like 6 buildings) and then just get extremely bored of it. This is the result from a summer of like 5 maps per day, almost none of which were ever published. I am hoping that HL2 will bring back that spark in me, and I will map once again. I am just looking forward to the vehicles mainly, because half lifes vehicles sucked and you couldn't do much with them it was lame, now we can have boats, helicopters, planes, cars, hovercrafts- and they all can have weapons on board to blow the hell out of your opponent!

In the progress of a city map to make Worldcraft Dude stfu about how good he is. Detail is the key my friend, details. His buildings are just big squares - mine are much better looking.

I have started making a HLDM called dm_underground. It's called that because it is undergroud but its more like the blackmesa facility type underground. Its turning out really good so far, I just have to keep getting idea's to put into it and make it decent sized!(Theres nothing like a small dm map, its absolutly terrible!!!).
On other news its 11:18pm and I have to get up at 5:50am (Thats like the earliest I have ever had to get up on a regular basis for my First Day Of High School . And hell am I excited. The only nervious I have is finding my way around (how typical and stupid sounding.... anyway.... )
