So, Obama won Presidency last night. There was much rejoicing.

I'm not exactly surprised, either. People are just tired of Republicans, let alone Bush-like Republicans.

Thoughts?

I've been making too many journals lately. Oh well.

Is it just me or does McCain look and sound like Dr. Evil from the Austin Powers movies?

Anyway, Obama FTW.

I hope Obama doesn't raise taxes like he said he would, otherwise its going to be a suckish 4 years for me.
Commented 16 years ago2008-11-05 20:17:22 UTC Comment #39902
Well Obama wants to raise taxes, yes, but he wants everybody to pay taxes, and he wants toe bigass companies to pay their fair share. therefore reducing the commonfolk's taxes somewhat.

And i just think McCain is a sleezeball

If you make under $500,000 a year your taxes will not go up, ATDestroy. Yours are probably going to go down, like mine.

I'm almost annoyed at how much support Obama got. My entire campus was pro Obama, without even knowing his position. They just voted for the black guy because he's more charismatic, he's got a more friendly face, and of course, he's the black guy.

I didn't know nearly enough about either candidate to judge who would make a better leader, and frankly, I didn't care to know. And thus, I didn't vote, and that's how it should be.
If Obama doesn't turn out to be some miracle worker, a lot of people are going to be pissed.

This is true, WCD. People just supported him because it was a band wagon kind of effect.

Still, I like some of his policies, even if they are a tad on the socialist side.

Too young to care.

I would have been fine with either had McCain not hired Palin as his running partner. Seriously. She's the biggest fucking idiot i've ever seen.

Yah, she was a huge mistake.

I want to smack her. Just once would be enough.

ATDestroy probably makes more than $1,000,000 annually, so he'll be taxed big time by Obama's policy.

I, on the other hand, only make $180,000 a year, so I won't pay more taxes under Obama.
Commented 16 years ago2008-11-06 03:01:06 UTC Comment #39890
Oh, only 180k satchmo? I would like to know the numbers for people voting for Obama because he's black and how many people voted against him because he's black. I bet both are ridiculous.

Election and compaigns were shit. I never seen such immature old shitheads, Hilary included.

Aw well... I hope shit gets fixed, and we can recover from our 4 trillion dollar war, get out of recession, and boost the economy back to at least a stable health.

Obama once voted to increase taxes for anyone who made over 45 thousand a year.
Commented 16 years ago2008-11-06 11:02:59 UTC Comment #39916
What's wrong with taxes? The money will come back to you one way or another.
If it doesn't, it will go to some other person, possibly needing it more than you.
Taxes is a way of making sure money/power is used on the right things.

Last time I was in America, a guy told us that he's moving to Australia if Obama gets elected, thinking that we'd agree with him. :D

I think it's great that Obama won. Simply because America needed to change its thoughts for the sake of the world (..and i'm looking from that perspective because i'm not an American). McCain was more of the same tbh. But all in all, I wouldn't know the bigger picture for what they stand for besides the big messages... and i'm 100% the avg American wouldn't know either. Simply because American elections are more focused on the person rather then their views, and with that, i'm happy that Obama won especially with the fact that McCain is old and made a lot of bad choices during his campaign and that Palin made a very dumb impression on me 'I LIVE IN ALASKA LULZ, AND ZEH RUSSIANS ARE RITE NEXT TO US... POETIN FLIGHTS OVER ALASKA!!' - cmon..

About the bandwagon thing, that's just humans nature slapping in your face tbh. I think it's great that he is black, because it might just be a tiny wee step for less racism and more unity among the people. If I was American, this wouldn't be the main reason I would vote for him tho.

What really got on my nerves was the fact that my country, The Netherlands, gave a whole lot more press (srsly, a whole lot more) and included with that big speceal telivision shows to the elections in the VS than to our very own elections. I think my country, no... correction; I think that Europe shouldn't be following America's dick everywhere.

Excuse me for hijacking your journal somewhat, I shall end my rant haha. :)

I don't think it would be followed as much as it was outside the USA if people weren't afraid the USA would get another bad president like Bush. Not saying McCain/Obama would/will be that bad, absolutely not, but I still think it's thanks to Bush (and others) the election got as much attention as it did outside the USA.
Commented 16 years ago2008-11-07 06:29:58 UTC Comment #39907
I think the problem with him being elected right now is that in the midst of America's new liberal circle-jerk we'll all become so unjustifiably satisfied with our president that we won't even care what moves he makes, and anything will be acceptable after the fucked up regime everyone just lived through. In other words, we're so used to a bad president that a sub-par one is now enough to satisfy any random guy. Let's hope the next four years is better than I foresee.

Why does everyone in the world even care about our election?
Commented 16 years ago2008-11-07 14:27:18 UTC Comment #39892
The US has the most powerful military and [use to have?] the largest economy. I'd guess those two are probably a notable factor in foreign publicity.

@ WC - The US isn't all that impressive tbh, it is just that America is constantly feeling like they are the 'western' leader (and while acting like that they seem to have made more international conflicts then creating a global sense of peace, which your most strongest military can't seem to end either)...and for somewhat the weak position of Europe, they have become that leader. But anyways, the growth and empirelism 'threat' of China and likewise countries are more impressive than the failing economy of America still hopelessly to pretend being such a strong country while clearly things haven't been coming along so nicely. But heh, i'm not anti-american or something. I hope things will change for the better.

Like it or not, America is the most powerful country in the world. You can debate it until the cows come home, but everything that happens in America will eventually affect everyone else, too.
