So, I found my dad on Facebook just now, and I can't decide if I should contact him or not. I haven't seen him in almost exactly 10 years and I had actually forgotten what he looks like.

He's never called or visited during these 10 years, despite the fact that we live in the same town. No birthday cards or anything either. I sort of feel like.. if you have kids, you should be there for them, it shouldn't be up to them to make contact.

Still, he's my dad. Dilemma :P

... 10 years without contact? And you live in the same town? You could contact him and remind him that you're still alive, I guess.

Call him a fuck-up, it's only the best thing to do.

I thought this was going to be a post about how old people shouldn't use Facebook. Boy was I wrong.

I absolutely love how they redesigned the Facebook homepage for use by old people*. It's like a Mac. Make all the simple features easily accessible, but make the more advanced configurations almost impossible to get to.

*sarcasm present

You should definitely contact him, but maybe not through facebook. Walk to his house and be like "What the fuck, dude?".

After a few hours of thinking (and a game of TF2) I've decided that he can go suck a turd.

And yes, old people using facebook is creepy, it feels wrong somehow. :P

Approach him at a bar, announce that you are Sue, and inform him that he is going to die.

cut off his finger, the little one, and tell him unless he comes up with a plausible excuse, his thumb's next...

That's funny how my dad just facebooked me yesterday.
I have quite a good relationship with my parents. It's unfortunate that other people do not.
Maybe facebook'll be a better way of breaking the ice than in-person?
Commented 15 years ago2009-03-16 09:58:12 UTC Comment #34711
Fuck breaking ice, thank god winter is over. But seriously, don't give him a chance, but let him know he fucked up and say a bunch of shit that'll got on his self conscience.

'Dad, I could have DIED and you would have never known!' Might work.

Make contact with him, begin a fight. Let him hit you hard. Then demand ALLOT of money.

Hey if it isn't Mr SariBous. This guy is awesome! We hardly see you on TWHL! I suppose you're an IRC'er than a TWHL'er now? :P

Dude, I log in at least 3 times a day :P
Commented 15 years ago2009-03-16 12:41:10 UTC Comment #34705
That may be but I don't see you comment D: Well to be far there aren't many topics on TWHL. Not many people map anymore so we don't get many WIPS.

I log 10 times a day ( firefox automatically does it for me) and still have completely inactive days, or days with stupid comments like this one .

I'd love to do some mapping but I can't get Hammer to work with steam :(

"Is it too late to be father and son?" will likely work.

Somehow I have my doubts.

I think I would at least try to make amends with your dad. Holding a grudge is never healthy (satch could probably tell you more about that).

Guinea's probably right, but i personally have a hard time making nice with someone who's hurt me; I'm sure it's healthier to forgive people, tho.
