A major blow to many pirates out there has just occurred! Mininova.org, one of the biggest and better known torrent sites on the web, has started to restrict itself to non-copyrighted infringed files, which Mininova refers to as "Content Distribution service". It should be very interesting to see how this will affect Mininova's more than 47 million visitors a month web traffic.

Anyway, here's Mininova's blog explaining this in more details: http://mnstat.com/images/blog/index.html

It'll probably slow down to 500 visitors a month.
Good job, though. Cleaning up the internet, one site at a time.

Of course, the one site the ant-piracy authorities have been trying to close down for years, but have failed miserably, is the biggest granddaddy of them all: The Pirate Bay! But my guess is, they might target Isohunt.com next, especially now since Isohunt.com will most likely get the bulk of Mininova's regular pirate traffic. Well, let's see what happens next.....

Public bittorent trackers has been a dying breed for quite a while... I'm guessing services like rapidshare and usenet providers will be increasing their revenue in the near future.

True, but to a point. The torrent model is still an evolving one, and the one public bittorent tracker that is still consistently modernizing their platform is in fact Isohunt.com. They even have a blog dedicated to this ongoing upgrade in their system. Also, don't forget about the browser clients, like for an example, "uTorrent", which is constantly being updated too.

For legal file sharing - absolutely. The issue with bittorrent piracy is that there has to be a centralized hub that someone can be held accountable for.

I just read Demonoid's "Maintenance" edit posting on thier front page, and by the looks of it, they seem to be having serious issues. I mean, all that talk about "lost data" does not sound too good to me. But anyway, they seem to have a comeback plan, so I hope they are back also very soon.

Well that message is very recent, because the old message below the new one has been on there for a very long time. So it shows they are still actively trying to get the site online.

I'm very aware of the piracy and I'd LOVE to have all my software bought, but can you give me the money ? Until yesterday, my copy of GRID was pirated. Now I'm legal with it, because there was a 75% off on steam promotion.
You're talking very easy my friend, everybody who fights piracy is just a a wolf with sheep clothes that says piracy is not a good thing. It's not a good thing for them, because they loose money ! But what they always don't say is the fact that the majority who is pirating are poor guys with no money.

Or lazy people, they pirate stuff too.
I only pirate stuff if it's unfair to charge for the program, ie. you have to pay for the program, but it's not a game and the stuff you create with it can only be distributed for free.
Go ahead and do what you want, but I will not pirate games.

I personally respect the people who make the games. And I'm trying hard to buy my favorites.
