Hey guys, my college tutor showed my class this very nice little website / game today: http://www.freepoverty.com/

Apparently this site has a game of pinpointing locations around the world, and every time you get a location given right, you will acquire water cups, which will be later donated to some very poor countrys around the world (Ecuador I believe or maybe Africa.)

How may this work you ask? Well My tutor told us that they get paid when people click on their website, and later they use this money for charity water to these poorer countries, it's really nice, All you need to do is click their website, play the game and you're donating water for free! Try it!

There is another one exactly like this that donates rice by the hundred/per question. EXACT same thing. Except they donate rice and ask vocab questions.

It's not just vocab questions, though, they also have other subjects such as math.

Who's paying them, exactly? It would be nice to think that helping poor countries through times of trouble is this easy, but somehow I doubt its absolute authenticity. Who exactly is paying to have this water supplied, and what incentive do they have for having people going through this website instead of, say, just sending them a bunch of water? There are no ridiculous accumulations of ads, no apparent source of major revenue for any company, just a simple little game.

If you search about the site, you'll also come to realize that there is no satisfactory explanation for how exactly this clicking game is helping them create revenue to support the donations. It's all real vague, and their "contact" is nothing but an email link.

I think this is potentially BS.

It's true that you do not have a large guarantee that this water is actually supplied, but for the sake of it can you not just play the game and take your chances with it, and possibly help the poor? You lose nothing but you gain self satisfaction and you know that you may have really helped someone in much lower conditions than you.

Srry is probably right on some level, I mean, there's always someone who needs to get paid. But on the other hand, that rice one is EXTREMELY popular and I've heard of it many, many times. I'd imagine if they were doing something terribly illegal that it would get shut down.

I agree with srry, but my explanation is that it's a trick to convince people out there to learn some geography. It's a fun little game, and besides, if this is really true, you're doing a good thing.
