So anyone else excited about Skyrim?
I must admit it makes me want to play Oblivion again but I've played the shit out of it and know that I'll just get bored after an hour.
So by pure accident I came across this new "German" mod that is meant to be a total conversion.
http://www.moddb.com/mods/nehrim-at-fates-edgeThey have an english version but me thinks it's still German voices but with english subtitles. Either way I'm gonna try it, maybe you should too.
I've thought about getting the Nehrim mod, but I just stopped playing Oblivion at the time and I had no motivation.
As for Skyrim, I can't wait. I'm sure it'll be amazing.
Lots of voice actors, better combat, supposedly better engine.
I played Elder Scrolls IV but never really got into it because I wasn't really experienced with FPSRPG games. I've tried going back to it since but the game looks so dated compared to the Fallout games on the same engine. The combat just feels too light, (lack of gore, stiff NPC animation, etc) Fallout 3 was awesome too and I never had an issue with New Vegas (better than F3 in many ways)
Both F3 and TESIV were made much better by the active modding community so if they keep the new engine open to modders then I will be very happy.
The entire way the games were designed just left me with zero motivation to actually progress the story. They're incredibly dull, but this is a problem with all open world games, I think. Needs to be a lot tighter and more interesting to actually give me a reason to move forward. Definitely among the most flat, glitchy and unrewarding games I've ever played.
1. Manually designed dungeons and caverns. In oblivion they had just 1 guy make them and in Skyrim it's 8.
2. The world is smaller so each area is more refined and more immersive.
3. Animation team is all new with more talent this time.
4. Humans look a whole lot better as seen in the pictures. The conversations no longer do that horrible ZOOM in thing. Instead they'll move around while talking, people behind them will carry on doing whatever it is they're doing.
5. The new sidequest mechanic means you'll never go to the same cave twice. If the game detects you've already been in a certain cave it'll change the quest to lead you to another. Although don't get too pumped for this cause I reckon it'll be like Red Dead Redemption with the same old random quests out in the desert.
6. They know the fighting sucked balls. No longer can you run backwards as fast as you can forwards. Instead of swinging like a mad man they've changed it to be more strategic. You can't just hold block, it drains your stamina, instead you must tap defend at the right time leaving an opening. Finally there are death kill animations.
Glitches will probably be there but not as bad as New Vegas, oh god never again.
