Exams are what is wrong with the education system.
I'm a competent writer, and I can analyse texts reasonably well. I got a solid 'A' in my HN English prelim (mock exam) then 2 months later I got a C in the actual exam because the question was a total curve ball. Don't want to blow my own trumpet, but I'm not a bloody C student, and it pisses me the hell off that I couldn't appeal my grade considering my prelim score.
And when I was in high school, half the classes seemed to be more about teaching you how to pass the exam, rather than actual useful knowledge in the subject.
It's nonsense. All I can say is thank fuck I'm in college now and almost all my assessments are practical, not theory.

I hate journal spam.
This could have been a shout. Why is it a journal.
@Huntey: Lucky you. In education, I've been confined to the same purely-academic-content type courses until I start doing student teaching. We don't get a lot of practical/real world assessments from courses in this department.

No, no. ASSIGNMENTS are what's wrong with the education system (at least, here). Nearly all of them for any subject ('cept Maths, obviously) involve copious amounts of writing, or writing up a resonable speech, etc. So if you're not great with English, you'll have a hard time passing ANY subject.

In 5th Grade, I had an OAA class that teaches you specifically how to pass the big test, giving us no valuable information in our education. Also, it seems the school ends after the test, even though there are 3 more months of school. They just use those extra months to goof off, I remember a teacher brought in the Wii and we played Just Dance.

Yep , 4th year hunter. I know , i've seen the rest of my family work their ass off ; i've been watching my brother basically going insane over his university dissertation , spending more time in the library than at home... Revision is horrible yet despite how annoying it may be , it is one of the most vital things you can do.
