So, as you may all know, Steam is having it's usual massive Christmas sale and there are lots of games, coupons and coal going around.

Now this is all well and good unless you're like me and have a habit of already owning lots of games that you are getting the said vouchers/coupons for.

So I want to get rid of them, but I thought why not take the opportunity to have a bit of fun and put them up for prizes for a mini-comp. Mini-comps have always been good in the past.

This will probably happen on January the 2nd after the christmas sale. I've got a few ideas in the mix but if your interested or have an idea, make a comment here.

It seems I've only gotten useless tickets, gave 2 to my friend for a serious sam 3 25% off coupon. seems like everyone else is getting Good games and DOTA 2 keys.I want a CS:GO key, that shit would be legit. On a related note, I'm not doing the CS contest because I'm a shitty mapper.

Well, guess what. I got Portal 2 just hours away since I bought Portal 2. That was both a slap on my face but also a nice gift, since I could give it to one of my friends to play in coop :P.

I got a Deus Ex GOTY gift, I'll contribute it to the mini-compo if enough people are interested!

Well how about that then? If we all throw in our useless tickets and the winners get to pick out of all of them. 1st place gets to pick first, then second, ect. I don't know, either way, I wanna get rid of them somehow.

I'm not interested in the CS compo, so what do you have in mind for this mini-compo?
Commented 12 years ago2011-12-22 22:19:20 UTC Comment #53648
Well, since there already is a compo on atm and to encourage people o enter, it should be short and an entry can be done quickly. One mini-comp that I liked on Snarkpit was you had to make a map within the confines of a box roughtly 512Wx768Lx512H. Took people about 2 days on average to make an entry and some of the entries were great.

And perhaps a new years theme, whatever that may be, otherwise just themeless to keep it simple. But at this point I'm open to suggestions.

We're planning on a 1024x1024x1024 full compo in the near future. Don't steal our thunder :(

Haha, sure. If I'd known I wouldn't have suggested it. Sorry PB.

Also, just got a 25% off Dead Island coupon...WHICH I BOUGHT A FEW WEEKS AGO!!! rages So that's going in the mix.

Ok, so now I need to come up with another idea. Going through the old competitions help, so how about a feature map. Basically, I'll design a small bland level with a few features like pillars, platforms, pools, ect and the idea is to make it pretty, taking into account the pre-existing features. You can modify the features (and add more) but those base features have to still exist.

Similar to TWHL's first compo: Texture It, Light It, Play It from 2003. But with a little more flexability.

How about that?

I think it's a great idea.

As for 1024³ - it's been done. Oh, but it wasn't an official compo.

Aww you could always do 31 brushes, but maybe it's still too soon?
Commented 12 years ago2011-12-23 06:33:25 UTC Comment #53656
It'd have to be 33 brushes since it'd be compo #33. (I can see this falling out of favor due to compos becoming increasingly easier)

Yeah, I didn't like that compo too much because I like my complicated brushwork and I reached 30 brushes in no time.

Note to self: forget 3 brushes compo idea.
