Well...Crap

I can't map anything at all since i made my last map. Like, I really wanna map somthing, but when I boot up Hammer all I seem to do is just stare at the viewpoints for half an hour and then get distracted by playing Twisted Metal Black on a PS2 emulator.

I don't need insperation, I already got halla of that, its just getting past the part where I texture 4 cubs and say screw this.

I need to do somthing more than make a map, I geuss. I think I'm going to do somthing better than that, like start modeling or, even better, learn how to make myself a mod (and probaly not finish it)

But I don't know...

P.S. I have a new song up:

On a serious note though, likely to be mappers block. I get it from time to time. I've scrapped hours worth of work because my heart just wasn't in it. That was WHILE working on a mod.

It happens.
Best thing is to start on paper. Just sketch.
You can build a universe on paper in the time you can build one level in the editor.
Jot down some ideas of what you want to do, and start drawing. Transfer to the map and viola!

I seem to have a permanent semi-mapper's block these days. I can map, I can think of new ideas, but I just don't feel like it, and whenever I encounter a bug, I just sigh and close the editor instead of fixing it. I tried mapping out the level I'm working on on paper, and that helped a bit, but only for a short burst.

Hmm... Need someway to convert my desire to play FO3 into desire to map...

As Urby pointed, work on something else for a while. Get rested from all the mapping :)
And you will be good as new to map some more!

As for me, I'm working with vectors, my 6th vector (unfinished):

Yeah, rests helps to settle down all the shit in your head. So, chill out dick-wad.

ThatGuy, you have shown absolutely remarkable progress in your mapping skills - I still remember playing Apartment only a few months ago, and your recent work is amazing by comparison.

Mapper's block occurs to us all, and I doubt there's a single member of these forums who hasn't started up Hammer and clicked around in the viewports for a few minutes before closing it again.

Play a few other peoples' maps and mods - the cool stuff will really re-ignite your mapping flare.

And gonna be honest - lol'd a little too loudly at Urby's post.

I don't really know why, but I find a good way to cure mapper's block sometimes is to search out some maps on twhl or gamebanana or wherev, and write some quick reviews.

Checking out someone else's creative hard work, whether it be a complete nub or godlike expert, can really help renew your own desire to map, and focus your own creative energy. PLUS you have the added good karma of leaving much-craved criticisms/adorations/suggestions on a total stranger's masterpiece ;)

This map of Upper manhattan is very inspiring to me at the moment.

Also if you've never joined a competiton, I would highly recommend it as another way to motivate your mapping mojo.

Good luck! =)
