I just posted this on the BMS forum, but I think it's worth bringing up.

What is with the Gordon Freeman vs. Adrian Shephard debates. People who say they are a fan of Shephard's character and would like to see him return... what!? What fucking character? He's a mute protagonist, just like freeman. The only thing that differentiates the 2 in game is their gloves.

Ugh... people!

Literally never seen a Freeman vs Shephard debate.

It's not worth bringing up.

I think it's more of the viewpoint then the character of the protagonist that the argument is about.

Freeman was trying to rescue scientists and save the world.
Shephard was assigned to kill everyone and cover it up.

End of debate?

I haven't personally seen any freeman vs shephard debates but I do know I've definitely seen a lot of people saying "we want shephard back!".

Well, look at it this way.

Freeman worked there with the company, he saw it all happening and he proudly represented his people as he battled his way across Black Mesa and soon into Xen.

Shepard gradually learned of what Black Mesa was and fought his way through the facility as he was left behind by his colleagues and eventually made it to rescue the facility by defusing the bomb and ending the civilization of Alien X.

How to start an argument on the internet.

Step 1: Express an opinion.
Step 2: Wait.

I disagree, Rimrook. Let's fight.

I've always wanted to see Shephard either be referenced to or return in a future Half-Life game as well, but I could live without him being referenced to.

It's probably that they liked Shephard's role in the HL universe, and they would like to see more of his role.

The different point of view was the real thing that made Opfor interesting. But demanding Shepard's character back in this day and age...another friggin' well-armored soldier guy as a protagonist would really make it stand out from the horde of Modern Warfields.

There are Freeman and Shepherd debates? I had no idea.

The thing is, Shephard would be in the same boat as everyone else now. The HECU is long gone, he has no orders. Hell, just play they Citizen and Citizen 2 and pretend that you're Shephard.

Or wait for Opposing Force 2 to be released.

Don't expect an Opposing Force 3 though.
