For those wondering where the LLC name journal went, I ate it. Will be back shortly.

Also, this is just grand. Get your desk ready.

For months I've been battling a virus that posed as a social network thing and has downloaded itself to my laptop. Every so often is comes back and I can't get rid of it forever. Turns out its a program from gateway that's perfectly legit, and it now that my asshole has loosened up around it. I checked it out and seems to be a nice little app for keeping tabs on my youtube, facebook, and twitter. In fact, lately I've been looking for an app exactly like this.

Commence head-desking now.

Kaspersky has been bitching for me lately too:

Detected legal software that could be spyware

Or something like that. Neutralized it yesterday, didn't appear since.

Anti virus is only useful when competent. Otherwise, it's detrimental to your system.

Socializing online has its price too.

In the real world, you might get a virus or two from social events. The same thing can happen virtually.

You just never know.

I never actually got a virus from Facebook. I just don't install crapps.

Anything that automatically downloads itself to your system is rude and not tolerable. And potential malware. Shoving things down people's throats is an impolite, aggresive and unethical form of advertising. Sadly, many companies fail to understand that. I deeply loathe anyone using such forms of advertising.

I would never accept such a thing, for many reasons but mainly because it may later update itself to be harmful without me knowing.

Sorry, I thought I mentioned the program. Its Gateway's Social Network Software. It comes with the computer already installed and downloads via gateway updates.

Gateway still make computers? My grandfather had a Gateway laptop that ran Windows '95, but these days I haven't seen anything at all related to them in the last 5-10 years. They must have given up in Australia.

They don't advertise really. But you can grab them at staples or best buy. Mainly laptops from what I gather.

Wait, an actual button on the laptop designed specifically for just one piece of software?

My old laptop had a few buttons like that iirc. I think most of them were just keyboard functions but there was one at the top with the power and wireless buttons that would open some proprietary media program. I suppose it looked pretty enough, and it could open every media file type I knew of at the time, but it was slow as balls. If I still had that laptop now I would have probably uninstalled it then figured out how to set that button to open Hammer, but I don't have it anymore.
