The crap I do when I'm not doing commissions.
Seriously, I should get these Comm's done... But I don't want too... They're all such Mary-Sue characters they make drawing them in shit styles not worth the money.
Anyway~!
What inspires you guys to continue to do something that you don't want to do?
Me likey.
How much do you charge for commissions any way?
I always plan out something i want to do. Realizing it is a challenge, but the goal is clear. Just like right now, where i spent 4 hours trying to configure XMS to utilize 64 megs of extended memory.
But the dumb thing only uses conventional memory.
So now I'm reading a shit load of shit because no one EVER had an idea that MAYBE they should document it step by step and not just - yea load this and that, you know what you shouldn't load.
Depends what it is. I range from $1 - $20 (AUD) base prices, depending on the style. Then additional charges for extra characters, backgrounds, Soft Shade or Cell shade, animals.... There are a lot of variables.
People like making things complicated so we go out and spend money on people who can do it for us. It sucks XD
And whats your dA, i want to see what'cho yo got!
Ergh! But, my dA is full of shitty anime stuff... >-> And pictures of me... being girly!!! XD
http://la--volpe.deviantart.com/ Have fun shuffling through 3 + years of shit, and ignore my dodgy digital art, I've only just started doing digital art recently.
You'll get better if your practice
I did some digital art my self as well, but nothing professional or even mildly "good".
I'm trying to get Nina to open up dA, she also likes do draw around.
You should show me~! You know since I showed you my work.
Tell her dA's great, just ignore the idiots though... And the porn.
There you go.
Pron is good, but good porn :>
Dude, Nikola is my sister's name, I was like "Wait-wha? Oh male, nevermind."
Artistic Nude = good porn?
God no, no artistic nude, never again.
XD That's what Porn is called on dA.
I work as a photographer for hire, so I understand perfectly your lack of motivation. I very often find myself doing a job and thinking I'm doing crap photos, boring images that have no appeal and are of no artistic value whatsoever. But then I think, people pay me to do this. They WANT these dull, bland, uninteresting pictures, and they LIKE the way I do them or they wouldn't be hiring me in the first place.
It's hard to put it into words, but I find a bit of solace in thinking it means something to someone, even if I don't share that interest at all. But I keep thinking, this is what keeps me in the loop, what helps me make myself a place in the market to later be able to show off the good stuff. You've got to start somewhere, and this is one of the options.
Some photos are incredibly important to people, such as wedding pictures. I can see and feel the importance of the ones at the altar, with the ring, etc. I don't share that passion with the rest of the event, and I sometimes end up shooting them with disinterest. They even look all the same to me sometimes. But seeing how it turns out they mean just as much to the clients keeps me motivated to give them the best photos I can take.
With all due respect, if you don't mind me saying, I personally believe you're really good looking despite the things you do to your hair My apologies in advance to Scotch because I'm not supposed to say this to a girl that I know is taken, but if it serves as an excuse I'm saying it professionally as a photographer rather than as a random wanker from the internet.
What are DA points? Do they translate to real-world money at all?
@Archie: Yeah, within the last year dA has been concentrating on the commission side of things. Though they have been failing... (The take 10%, so no one has been using their way.)
@Kraken: I get quite a lot of commissions and I don't do much (social-life wise).
@DiscoStu: ACTUAL artistic nude, yeah, I wanna try that too. (Probably not model though XD I'm usually behind the camera.)
I worked at a photography shop as an assistant for awhile, boss was a bitch but it was SOOOO much fun. I love doing photography, though I'm more into Nature and b/w neg portraits then normal people pictures.
Weddings are worth all the boring clique stuff though, there is so much money in it. XD
Naww that's sweet of you. Scott can suck it up, most of my friends are male and the amount of flirting that goes on when Scott is standing right next to me is insane. And no most of the time they aren't joking. XD
Internet pervy like
There are also some really awesome people.
I got donate $1000 from some random to give away Premium Memberships, points and other dA merchandise and host contests... That was like 1 and 1/2 years ago. Great guy, a lot of people tried to take advantage of him so he left the community.
It'd be nice to be shown a little random appreciation, y'know?
NOTE: LaVolpe excluded from preceding statements.
EDIT: And Suture.
Do you use a pen-tablet, mouse or a touchpad for your digital art?
I HIGHLY recommend a tablet! It's incredible how much better they are to draw with.
Also, what program do you use?
@Tetsu0: I have a Wacom Bamboo Gen 3, annnnnnnnnd, I don't like using it... I'm a Traditional Artist at heart, and I only started digital end of last year, bought a tablet beginning of last year. I sketch things Trad then just line and colour dig. using either Paint.Net or Gimp 2 (Free Programs)(Not interested in buying better programs these ones do exactly what I need for now.)
The pressure you put down can scale the pen size and I think it's a fantastic transition.
I do agree though, there's nothing better than Pen/Pencil on paper
@Archie: ... 0.o (Seriously though I don't mind XD I'm a female gamer and I live on the internet, I'm use to it all.)
@Stu: I... Agree. MAYBE, his drunk?
You should update it, I mean, I use my dA as a progression meter too see the evolution of my art style and ability.
