You could make that Halo 1 map with the huge spinning wheel and everything. If your fast at making terrain.
Otherwise known as Zanzibar =')

The displacements aren't that bad, I think anyway.

I've got cameras, pointfiles, parenting, doors (physics and model), I/O system, basic - intermediate - advanced physics, carving (the right way, if at all), ropes/wires, cubemaps/reflections, and 2 more game_ui related tutorials.

I've been a bit lazy too, but as soon as school airs out a little, they shall be written.

With the shoutbox, could you make it re-direct links to the main page window as opposed to the small shoutbox window. Unless it's another opera thing, that is.

If you've forgotten about the camera, click on the camera tool and drag it across a 2d screen. The camera no longer starts somewhere by default, so it's blank until you drag it.

A "bubble" is technically the structure of the universe larger than a filament. Like clusters and superclusters, just bigger.

Sure there is. Matter is considered anything that has mass. The vaccum of space has no mass, we get to travel through it freely. Scientists have already determined that the universe is in a heirarchy of gravity and we're arranged into a huge bubble like structure. Past that bubble, nothing is there, although the universe is slowly expanding out into that nothingness around the bubble. If there is "infinite matter", it's not here. It might exist, just not in this dimension or whatever the hell you'll call it.

Matter doesn't stop, what matter is here has always been here and it's just slowly expanding outward. So, no it hasn't "stopped", it's just not 'there' yet.

yeh TJB, it sounds like it could work, but that does mean we could create infinite energy. By the laws of natural physics, such a thing is impossible. A single particle can only hold so much, I imagine.

Did I also note that these thousands of lasers radiate a point that these atoms are kept at. This radius just happens to be about a football field in length, so no =D

Also, it's laced with lots of systems geared at cooling. Such a device would melt a car, heh.

I watched something on the discovery science channel how a fusion chamber's being built at the moment.. it will use less power than a hair dryer to fire thousands of lasers at a single target to create enough fusion energy to power the entire planets energy needs for 40+ years within a few miliseconds, heh. Granted they dont fuck it up while building it, it will be cool.

Also, lets just hope it works. Even if they can only collect a small portion of the energy released, it does only take a few atoms. They can pick it out of the air we breath if they want, talk about cheap.

If every single one of those people didn't have those sort of doubts and just turned off whatever device it was
That's the problem though, every single one of those people wont. That being said, I dont have lights on just to have them on.

I dont do it to save the earth or anything like that, I just like the prospect of a lessened power bill. On the other hand, little piss off teenagers love to leave lights on because they dont yet know the 'value of money' and therein dont care if they leave lights on in the first place. They aren't working or paying for it, afterall.

Anyway.
I would love for you to find a documented legit source that mentions solar panels that effecient. I mean, how in the hell does an insignificant person (which includes all of us) know about "top"secret information. Top secret means that if you find out without the clearance, the government will kill you <3. Granted it's top, you wouldn't know anything.

Even if more effecient ones do exist, technically they dont. So long as we dont officially know about them or are able to use them, they are dead to me.

All the people who don't turn off their lights, think its cool to leave them on or think that it will make little or no difference is the kind of attitude that is holding us back.
It's a tricky argument, that one. I do believe it wont make that much of a difference though. You might say that's the attitude that's holding us back, but at the same time, how does turning them off move us forward. Even then, there's no possible way to get your cause into every single person. So, when there's a call for people to do things like this, they are only delaying the inevitable. That's why little projects like this have any kind of value or majesty to it. Less people do it, more people dont. That said, it's like ZL said earlier. It is a "symbolic" event. The largest problem is that different symbols mean different things to different people, just the majority believes that they dont care and keep their lights on anyway.

And, if you want to be a real hardass. "how" is that attitude holding us back. It is actually improving us in several ways. Even though it's slowly killing the planet, it's just a drawback that we have to decide for ourselves; a logical descision that we as a species cannot turn back from. Power consumption creates jobs, power usage has progressed our quality of life and the way we live our lives, and there is no possible way we're going to become independant of electricity. You say it's holding us back, but instead it's pulling specifically the planet down. Also, bringing the planet down in the first place gives a whole host of other people jobs. Humans like jobs, if fucking the planet creates more jobs (even if the inventors didn't know themselves at first), then let there be jobs.

in 2 Little Problems Post #248134
In reguards to your first problem,

It's your tex-lighting that's doing it. There's a tex-light file with the ORIGINAL texture (the one that's "on") that makes it put out light. Since the light entities being created are part of the texlight, you cannot name the light so it is built into the map. That light is impossible to turn off, changing a texture does not necessarily change it's texlighting properties too.

You're only bet is to find the text-light file with that texture and it's light values in it and remove it. Then you'll need to add your own lights via hammer and turn them on/off through triggers.

I do realise that, I mean, I keep most of my lights off as well. The simple fact is, there's no way that this futile little movement of there's is going to help anything.

1. It's only an hour, we're only delaying the process of killing Earth.
2. Humans are greedy creatures that like their light
3. If a small following of people stop, the majority will still kill the planet anyway.

Beware of surreal maps in source though. If you aim to do one with custom textures and glowy looking stuff, it's very hard to get to look right.

If you make shiny/glowing things, they dont look exactly right with a normal map. Everything else (assuming you use standard tex's) does use it though. That will make your textures look out of place, so it takes a looot of tweaking.

The solids shouldn't so much be a problem, I've had walkways that looked simple at a glance but were 140-something brushes, heh. (No they weren't pointless either,)

I'm guessing it's your "large outside area".

Cut down on some open space, lower the skyboxes maybe. That just seems like your biggest problem.

Ill write to give criticism on your idea rather than hack at your "leadership".

I wont join because the mod sounds a bit un-expansive and potentially irritating.

A hedge maze does not leave room for improvement. If anything, it will be hallway after hallway of repetetive looking hedges. Even then, "full" foliage such as hedges are hard to pull off in source. That's why most of the trees are dead, hehe. There is no real room for interesting locations here. Mazes generally look the same no matter where you look. This might be irritating in the sense that a player will get lost in this maze. If everything looks the same, the player will lose their sense of direction. They'll try path after path to find they run into a dead end. The gameplay that you've described just sounds insanely tedious and un-original.

/me is done :>
