Yea I mean its somewhat understandable that they were offended but once my girlfriend appoligized and was to the point where she was crying they should have gotten over it.
Because she used it to lable the table because she had a lot of tables and didn't want to forget which check belonged to which table. It was a really busy night and she forgot to take the lable off before giving it to them. Sure she could have put brown haired lady. But unfortunately she left the racial profiling description on the check on accident. It doesn't sound that racist though but they made a huge scene out of it and were cussing my girlfriend out until she was crying and didn't tip.
I like dream a lot better than "nightmare" my self. Abduction and abstract is still my favorite. There are many ways to define abstract. Just look at images of abstract art and paintings and architecture on google. I also like secret. Decayed is pretty cool too but I don't think it compares to the other ideas.
Edit: Im all for map a dream now! You who like the night mare idea vote for map a dream and I will too...
Yea alien abduction was my favorite suggestion. It would be awesome!
And as for map a nightmare I had suggested map a dreamin a pm which would be a little more broad and could be both a night mare and a good dream.
map a secret would be awesome because secrets are really fun to explore and find. I like ones that are in a normal plain looking map that you wouldn't expect to find a secret.
make an abstract map/place would be very interesting to do in the way that abstract art is well "really abstract and strange".
I'm afraid there are becoming so many ideas that the voting process might not work very good. But I guess we will see. I had submitted many ideas but I sent my favorite five to strider so maybe you could just use those five as my ideas.
These ideas may not be as broad as "water" but I don't feel they are constricting. They are just ideas/themes which is a must in a competition.
As for make a trap, that has been done before in a competition but I think it would have a better outcome if it was done again.
Making a decayed map is cool but could be implimented into other maps/ compo entrys. Imagine what you could map with the abducted theme. The ship, the place of abduction, how it happens, aliens/monsters/ whatever is doing it and why. What happens to you/ what do they do to you. It would be really creepy and a cool experience.'
A dynamic map is a good idea but maybe a little too broad. Good job explaining what you mean though. A factory or something would work for it.
You could start one "unnoficially". You should join comps anyway, there great experience and really fun and competitive. And who says you couldn't place.
I sent Grim a pm with some ideas. Let me know how yall want to figure it out. All we need is the theme/compo stipulations and some judges. How it is handled could be figured out while its going on.
Its been quite a while since last one. We should get another one together soon. I thought it would be cool too if we invited a few people like kasperg, captainp and other mappers that don't come around back to join it.
I really want to do one like the "map something unique". I really regret not being around for that one.
I think its great for visuals but not if the model was for a game. @striker, modeling is probably boring because of what your making. The first models I ever made "and only as of now" were a desert eagle, a great heron and a largemouth bass.
Edit: Finally someones checking out my map I want feed back because I am about to start another one for condition zero.
Thanks a lot and nope. I don't really care to wait for such long compiles with source. And I like to compile a lot to test scale and everything. I really see making maps as architectural exercises so great graphics don't matter to me too much.
Good to see your starting up with source yourself. Guess you have a little more patience than me.
A few of my models appear to glow a greenish color. They are actually ev_sprites with a model for their sprite name. They didn't do it before but started I think after messing with the lighting in my map. Any idea whats causing this?
Thanks, yea its coming together pretty smoothly. Im using models as foliage and some func_illusionaries. My only obstacle will be to find out how to make them illusionary because when you shoot them they bleed black stuff. Hmm actually I haven't experimented with counterstrike vs half life making them monster_generic. Someone has also mentioned making the map compile cyclers to become sprites. I'll have to see who did it and ask how.
Edit: Wow, you can make sprites a model in counterstrike cz. Awesome!!!!!, couldn't do it in hl.
This forum isn't about grammar so shove grammar up your pachina and focus on "video reviews of your maps"!!! Its not cool to care about grammar tuna lol.
You guys are all silly. Just put yourself in huntey's shoes. If you had a website and wanted some people to join it what would you do? Who cares, if you don't like the offer you don't have to take him up on it. Its not like he's saying "leave twhl to join me". This isn't facebook taking over myspace twhl will always be a helpful site to go to for questions and help. It is growing as is halflife into source/ so on. Besides all of this, it sounds like a pretty good deal. Post 25 times on his site and get a video review of your own map! I can't wait to finish the one im working on to get one!
Ok well the "joke" soup posted for huntey to review is a prime example of what im getting at as a waste of time. How about this. You must have put quite a bit of effort into making the map good to get a video review. Otherwise you could probably make it better on your own without such a thorough examination. Its just common sense.
Sounds cool than and definitely encourages me to join the site! Who wouldn't want video reviews of their maps. Its awesome! I give a sh** therefor trapt is wrong...
You like him?... Anyways I think its a good idea but there would be way too many "crappy" maps to have to do it for. How about "if it gets five stars on the twhl website" and they post 25 times in your forums than you would do a video review for it. This makes a little more sense. Theres really no point in doing a video review for a shabby ugly map. If you feel you have time to do that many video reviews than by all means do it but imo there should be some motivation for the map to be good at all in the first place. Edit:
I worked so hard on this map. It tooks months to build. I know it's a bit of an oldie, but it's so underrated, and I'd really appreciate a nice, positive review.
HAHAHA...
Anyways im working on a condition zero map right now that I would love to get a video review of when completed so I will definitely take you up on the deal. May take a while to finish thow.
No you don't, I read that it places snow/rain wherever the sky isn't covered. I think I just need to dl the cs1.6 fgd. from somewhere. Can't find it thow.
I just began mapping for counter strike/ condition zero. How do you use the weather "rain/snow". I dl'd a counterstrike fgd. but don't think its the one with the weather effects. Where can I get it and how is it used? Thanks.
