Even if it isn't, it'll be Sasha's problem. :P

This is gonna be open to both Goldsource and Source and it's a pretty damn good compo. Heck, it's one I'd even enter, but alas...

I want to see a big turn-out here, folks.

Why the hell would you remake Halo for the Source engine? It's not like it's an old game that needs a graphics overhaul or anything...

Now, Deus Ex: Source - there's a mod I'd like to see in development. In fact...

How desperate are you peeps for a new TWHL compo? I'm currently sitting on a new compo (one that I think is quite good), but I've also got stuff like TWHL3 Development happening.

As well as this, Alex hasn't showed me how to do compos yet.

I'm heading away on holidays on Sunday/Monday for a week or so: perhaps we should wait until February? It's your choice.

Easy.

Load up the game your mapping for, bring down the console (with the ~ key) and type 'map mapname' (without the '). If the console doesn't come down, go to options > controls > keyboard > advanced (or something similar) and tick "Enable tilde console something or rather" (not at home, so I can't remember the exact name).

Luke: Thanks for the offer, but Alex has sorted out the hosting, so TWHL3 is currently up and running.

Elof, Strideh and I are going to be working on the design soon. Here's a very very quick mockup for the design of the news posts (which'll be without that avatar image btw).

Edit: And from that mockup comes this (thankyou Strider!).

ZHLT.wad comes with Zoner's Half-Life Tools, which is an alternate (and better) set of compiling tools. I'd go ahead and get them if you haven't got them already.

Iirc, if you're compiling with ZHLT, that wad is added automatically.

Ok, an update.

I currently have the code that Alex had done on TWHL3 to this point. What we don't have at the moment is a place to host it that can handle a SQL database. Afaik, Alex is sorting that out at the moment, so we'll wait and see what's going on. If he fails to make anything happen, we'll have to look for alternate means.

Main point is, we have the code.

PAK files were used because that's what the Quake engine uses. Since the inception of Steam, it's been GCFs, mainly because it's an easier format to work with giving Steam's penchant for updating.

All the major oil companies prevent the development of alternate fuel sources, mainly because they'd stand to lose a shit-tonne of money. Heck, Hybrid cars aren't the full answer, they still run on fuel, so the fuel companies still make money.

I could teach you how to map for Jedi Academy, Rowleybob.
It's very easy considering it uses the same engine as HL1.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't HL1 running on the Quake 1/2 engine? Jedi Academy runs on the Quake 3 engine. It's essentially the same BSP principle though.

HL1 mapping requires hours of dedication to get a room to look right.
Source rooms require the same amount of time, if not more, thanks to the huge amount of detail you can inject into them. And yes, it uses props, but the engine has to compete with modern day engines and look good and props are the best way to do it. Hell, Source is crippled enough already because it runs on the old BSP rendering system, which, I maintain, was done to appeal to the modding community.

Strange that though, m0p, because iirc, HL2 is optimised for dualcore CPUs. I did notice a bit of an FPS increase, but I still occasionally get audio stutters. I'm not entirely sure what causes it either: whether it's my sound card or Valve's shitty coding.

Performance in Windows is a little better though, which is consistent with what other users are reporting, so it's all good.

By the way, Athlete, there's no way you'd be getting a constant 150FPS on a 6600.

Entity sitting in the void? Have you func_walled anything that faces the void (walls and the like)? Where the line intersects with brushwork is a general idea of where the leak is (or if the brushwork itself is causing the leak by being an entity).

Coplaner face means that your brush is has a straight edge that is made up of more than two vertices. Here's an example:

Go to that brush and fix the vertices by either moving the vertice, or deleting it.

I've already rounded up a few people from #twhl, including ZombieLoffe. He and I will be overseeing the general look of the site, which, of course, includes the updating of the current TWHL theme. As such, we've got enough people working on the visual aspects.
