Misinforation alert!
If the center x of your hammer window is illuminated red, you have an enity in need of an origin brush--func_door_rotating, func_tracktrain, etc.
What center x? I don't see center x.
Yeah Muzzie, you're right--I just tested it and there is no center x... I have no idea what I was thinking. Actually, I think I had a weird phantom brush appearing, caused from collpasting vertieces until there were none left...yikes--this isn't modeling rowleybob! I think I ended up fixing it by opening entiy report and deleting.

Misinforation alert!

Yikes I don't know why everyone has such negative comments for this, I think it's really funny and well done--I've watched it over a dozen times...

Of course the guy's voice is annoying, partially because he has an annoying voice/accent, and partially because he's totally high/drunk/both/? However, I must say his incoherent comments are very funny, and his annoying voice makes it more funnier

I rate "black hackers" below terrorists. They should be tortured slowly for the rest of their lives after there genitals have been pulled off.

Think about it. They trespass upon and destroy your personal property. The lowest forms of life out their pretty much.

Viruses wouldn't be such a big deal if Windows didn't suck so bad and we all weren't so dependent upon it.

Viruses wouldn't be such a big deal if more people backed up their shit regularly.

Virurses wouldn't be so bad if there weren't so many stupid people propagating them by getting infected/passing them from stupid activities--Dowloading/Installing cracked version of MSVC++ and expecting it to be clean..cough..not that I've ever done that :P

I assume your using steam?

Get GCFscape--works like Pak Explorer, but for the new steam format.

Unpack what you need from the steamapps folder and put them in your cstrike directory.

Neat alex! Most people know this already, but the same sort of thing applies to fence/railings--transparent textures. If you make all the sides one entity, then some edges disappear.

Making each fence/railing section it's own entity fixes it :)

Apparently when you leave it out, Hammer uses the center xyz of world as the origin.

Path_corners for func_trains, and path_tracks for func_tracktrains. I wasted a couple of hours learning that one the hard way ;)

Please don't laugh, but in terms of playablilty for a MP shooter, My favs are:

1.dod_flash
2.cs_assault

Both of these maps I've played over and over, and over again, and never get tired of them! Due to my limited experience of fps gaming, it's a short list as you can see!

Some Battlefront and Battlefront II maps are suprisingly nice as well... Some pretty pwn texturing in that game in places.

<rowleybob trys to find a copy of Unreal II upon everyone's recommendations on how pretty it was>

K. About the whole rap thing. I don't think anyone said all Rap sucks, no one would be foolish enough to generalize like that.

What most people said--me included--, Is that Most, or 99.9999999999999% blows monkey balls... :P

Seriously though, some of it's okey. 311 is one of my fav bands, and they are a hybrid form, stronly influenced by Rap and Reggae--Reggae I do like a lot actually btw! So relaxing.

On that note, adding Bob Marley to the list :glad:

Looks pretty good imo. Concept drawrings don't have to be as detailed as Rimrooks to be useful--but they are nice!

The important thing is to flesh out your idea on paper or whatever, to serve as a "dry run" for you idea. Much better thatn spending 30 hours in-editor, and finally figuring out your idea is no good!!

Don't limit to one overlay or type of sketched either. You could try variations on the theme, details of specific rooms, etc. This Is why I like using a paint program for this--I use MS paint--, because it's easier imo to quickly/nicely sketch out stuff, and variations thereof, as well keep them organized and preview/compare quickly--thumnails.

Ignore button:

User posted image

If you've created a complex brush-based entiy like a func_tank, train, or whatever, and you want to edit it without changing it To World and redoing all the entity values, use Ignore.

Click on your entity and then click the Ignore button. This disassociates the brushes from the entity--while the button is toggled--, so you can edit the brushes individually. When your done, click again and WALLOP, your done :)

A confusing sidenote about Ignore. If you hit CTRL-W to change a brush To World, it is actually the hotkey for Ignore Instead!

Right now I'm hooked on a local Indie band called Hussalonia, which the artists themselves classify as poppy pop satire.

Too many others to bother trying to mention. For me it's easier to list stuff I don't like:

-Country music, all but the very earliest stuff.
-Blues
-Jazz with vocals
-Any Sweedish music I've ever heard, except Amy Diamond :P

I like the floating holos for now, without seeing them in more detail. I can see however what CP is saying about them bein anachronistic.
The Problem with source is that my computer can hardly run it.
Know what you mean. My notebook pwns HL games and mods, but gets raped by source... :(

I liken it to mapping for HL when it first came out...I would've not had the patience to map back then, given the crappy computers--hence long compiles, poor Hammer performance, etc-- most of us presumably had.

in Compiling and still compiling Post #160067
Saco, just curious, what are your computer specs?

You can also try cordon compiles for small areas of your map. This way if a very small area takes a really long time, you know there's a really big problem there :)

I hate waiting for compiles, and would never wait for days or even hours. The only time i've even heard of such a thing was reading old accounts of compiling, back when our computers were much shittier. Even then... :

Oooh that "too many light styles on a face" error is oh so annoying too! If you use only/mostly textlights, you shouldn't run into this error. As I'm sure you've heard 100 times before, only use point lighting where you need dynamic effects.

Here's a simple one that most people know, but still I see it buggered on a regular basis.

When you have double doors of any kind--like elevator doors--make each door a seperate func_door, and give them each the same name. Then put a trigger brush in front of the door.

This way, the doors will only open by the trigger, and will always open simultaneously.

in New map: De_Nexus (based off SC) Post #159611
I haven't used hings personally, but I think I understand the concept.

For instance, all the fine brush detail you have on the lower portion of the Nexus. If a player isn't inside the walls where the nexus is, you don't want the engine "drawing" that portion for the player, else higher than necessary r_speeds.

I think if you put hint "like a roof" over the area where the Nexus is, right to, and intersecting with the walls, you could be sure that only the top portion of the Nexus would be "drawn" for the player--what the player is able to see from outside only.

Whatever you do, I know from reading Andy's tutorial on hints that you can run your map in wireframe, and essentialy see what's being drawn, from where you are on the map.

in New map: De_Nexus (based off SC) Post #159438
Sweet vespene Geysers! Have you tried using hints to reduce your r_speeds? Even though the nexus is highly detailed, it--at least most of it--should not be rendered unless players are inside the metal area.

If that doesn't work, you could also replace the detailed brushwork on the nexus with custom textures.

If you wanted to include Terran stuff, you could put a half burried wraith or Siege Tank or Goliath in the ground. The surrounding structures are obviously of Terran origin, so one could understand seeing some smashed Terran machinery :P

Awsome stuff!
