Does anyone search old threads or read links that others post?? :|

The short answer is it's a bug.

Good news is there are a myriad of workarounds, one of the better ones listed at the end of the thread I mentioned in my last post, by BlueShift.

Though, since this thread seems to be recurring, maybe we should do an example map for it... :

This one is my favourite so far...

It's a little fast, but It makes me laugh uncontrolably each time I see it!

My Friend just turned me on to this site, and he said there used to be a lot more stuff on here, but all the non PC stuff gets moderated, so...

I think I noticed somebody here has already referenced the mumbling batusi, which is also pretty pwn.

Y'ato's Past
Chapter 9 - Cold Brig

Y'ato faded in and out of consiousness with increasing frequency, until he could faintly sense reality once again. Coherence was not without it's price, as he was keanly aware of his wounds about the legs while awake. "Why hadn't they healed me?" he thought, and quickly realized he was much less of a threat to the kidnappers, less than healthy.

Now fully awake, he took a quick inventory of his new environment, recapitualted the recent past, thought as hard as he could on his move.

He lay face down on a coarse bed, which smelled more of a beast's lair then a bedroom. He was bound and blindfolded, legs and arms and body together with some sort of enchanted leather cord, which prevented his morphing somehow.

"Zaleh...that son-of-a..." but there was no time for that now. "Focus," Y'ato thought, "Focus on a way out of this mess."

Smells. Besides the stench of the bed, he nosed others: woodsmoke, something strongly acidic and sweet, the iron smell of dried blood from his wounds, and the cold. The smell of cold was unmistakable, and he reasoned the fire was almost out, as he was starting to chill... "maybe that's what woke me" he thought for a moment, and then back to the task at hand: escape!

Sounds. Shutter creaking with no dicernable pattern with the wind, crackling embers, sound of the bed rustling when he tried to reposition himself on the bed... no help there... wait! What is that?

Y'ato could barely hear the raccous laughter of his attackers, muffled by a distance of a quarter mile or so.

"I need to act quickly," Y'ato thought.

Next...The Hunter

Thanks Muzzie, that did it, 'cause it's working now!

It was weird, the splash screen was just stuck there, but I could still click on stuff underneath it like windows key+L to lock it down, and then hover my mouse to the lower left to shutdown, but that was about all I could do!

Has this happened to you? This started happening for me after the Oct. 3rd Update.

Everytime I try to load Half-Life, it just freezes on that screen where Gordon is holding the poorly construchted shotgun, with no menu items. Also when this happens i cannot:

Alt-Tab
Ctrl-Esc
nor Ctrl-Alt-Delete

Steam/Halflife gets the award for the first program to crash my XP SP2! :x

I've searched around on Steampowered.com, and google, with no help yet...

in Links page Post #140167
There are some good ones in this thread, that aren't mentioned.

However, I see some virtue in having a links page that doesn't list every single thing, for organization's sake.

If I were king of TWHL, I'd prolly break down the links categories as such:

HL mapping links
HL2 mapping links

Then for each:

Editors
Compile tools/Front ends
Texturing
Sprites
Modeling
Sound
Misc/General

(Also, I'd list respective tutorial links under each subcategory)

But that's just me ;)

I wouldn't say I can model, just know a little bit about Gmax is all. I've never exported anything nor texture mapped, nor created animtions, etc. etc etc.

I'm planning to learn milkshape because it's suppose to be better suited for HL1 than Gmax. So maybe someday! :

You should try it Elon! It's fun to model, errr, play!

Take heart my friend. :)

One day, when you are a better mapper, you will realize how utterly pants your first map was, and how you grieved unneccessarily :P

Grieve well for now, and redo the map! :)

P.S. I've found personally when this has happened to me, and I have to rebuild a map, I generally do it 10 times better better than the first go

I haven't been able to start work on my example map for this, because work has been really busy lately.

I think you should try implementing bratty's method, which so far seems the best way.

If I get some time later, I'll work on it and PM you.
is this really worth all the trouble and will the faking actually work correctly
I like trying things like this as a challenge. Of course if you can't make it work correctly, and you have to do something else, your labor is not in vein if you've learned something.

Hey just because some douche has a Matrix-based name, no need to shit on it. The first Matrix pwned everybody and you know it. I challenge anyone to come up with a movie that had better action sequences.

And just because every cheezy movie after the matrix copied the 'matrix' effect, doesn't mean it was originally bad.

The hairs on the back of my neck still go up, when Trinity king-hits all those cops in the opening scene! :P

<notice I never used the glad emoticon before I heard Amy Diamond? :glad:

Please understand me
Your games ain't working anymore, ain't working anymore
You can't have this candy
And keep one foot outside the door, noo

At first I tried to fight it, with her maddening songs stuck in my head, but now I've given up, succumbed to the eerie power she seems to have...

Free your mind - your behind's gonna follow
Do the crime - Do the time when tomorrow comes
We're the pretty ones
Shop around, settle down, get a job, be a slob
What you get, what you give's your prerogative
That's how we live

...

Show and prove, do or die
We don't sleep, we don't cry
No, no we don't cry
Hit 'em low, hit 'em high
Take an eye for an eye
