That's a novel idea Atom.
So i'm going to work out all the fine details now.
Turns out since there's only about 6 maps submitted i'm not going to need a larger castle..
I'm just going to spread out the castle i have already.
Maybe retexture it as well because the vanilla HL ones are freaking bland.

As for the surgery - check my journal.

I'm in for surgery tomorrow which means I have a recovery period in which I can map all I want! if I REALLY focus I can have this done by th end if next week.

No real problems, but it seems to lag a bit more than it should.
Efficient use of Vis-groups can solve that though.

I'll have to watch the movie to get all the details. and i don't exactly have all the correct props, but i DO have the air brakes opening (3 yellow things in front) when you turn.

Phys thrusters are hard to REALLY control well..
I wish there was a phys_hover :-P
Like g-mod, but that's cheating.

hey uh.... skals...
mod structure - 98%
Your entry must NOT be in mod format. If you have custom content, the content should be zipped in the appropriate folder structure.
And soup, everything was subdivided, but i just did it wrong, instead of making say a 6 sided displacement with 3 brushes, i made a 6 sided displacement with 6 brushes.

Looks MUCH better! =]

We need to get some Source tuts in here, though, or we'll be obsolete soon...
I plan on proposing a tutorial on "advanced NPC control" after the compo is done and after i can get a better feel for the AI logic.

The stuff i've done in my maps i had to figure out for myself via trial and error and the VDC wiki.

So i hope to write some more tuts as to save someone else the pain and wasted time i went thru :)

There's a lot more i'd like to do with map 1. But at this point in time, i'll consider it finished.

Ending map - took me only 5 or so hours to really finalize - could be better, but time allowing, i'll spruce it up a bit.
Now for map 3!
Lots of work to do here. Mostly entity stuff, squad scripting, lots of level changes occur with this level (think of it as the central hub) so Map 2 is the pain in the ass map.

Mine's getting released i guarantee it.
I'm doing all the level changes right now.

Once those are done i'll go back and flesh everything out.

If the level changes work flawlessly, i'll be happy releasing the maps as-is.

But i'd be ecstatic if they're to my standards.

My progress:

Map1 - 90%
Map2 - 70%
Map3 - 80%
Map4 - 99% (needs level change from map 2 and that's it)

So i still have a lot of work to do..
Worse comes to worse, I'll just leave out some stuff.
Everything flows at the moment, i just have a lot of other things i would like to add - time allowing.

I just finished the ending so at least that works and i wont have to worry.

Check the tutorial for the Goldsource one.
It's the same thing.

But there's something called a trigger transition that copies all the entities within the volume to the next map. The trigger transition references the same landmark used for the level change.

That's the level change tutorial..

In source, there's still the landmarks, there's still the trigger_changelevel, you still need one in each level with one of the same named landmarks in each level as well..

doesn't render as static. it should because the model viewer says it can... but nothings there if I have it as a static. I'll just clip it out and have it non solid

the couch has disabled collisions or else the npcs actually throw it across the room when they sit on it. I'll check the npcs statuses too. those npcs need to stand up and do stuff later. ATM they're just chillin until you do something.

IMO it's the same deal as goldsource. just hit the full compile when you're ready to release. have you checked the VDC for any compiling tips?? it has a permanent bookmark in my toolbar above my tabs. I visit 3x+ a day for entity info and crap.

Putting the finishing touches on stringing my 3 maps together for the compo, yes i have 3. But i'm having a few issues with the level changes.

First of all, is there a command to force the player to exit a vehicle? Could i just kill the vehicle? or would that mess crap up?

Secondly, there's a teleport in the first level which brings you to the second, but when you get there, you can see all the props from the first level floating in the sky, and the fog_controller carries over too.

Is there a way to prevent this?

Thirdly, it seems that enemies are carrying over from map to map as well..
This is highly un-desirable, and could be the downfall of my entry :( boo :(
Why is everything in source so much more difficult than in Goldsource? :-P

any help is appreciated.
