The original UT is great, 2003 was nice, but 2004 is what is should've been (hence, you should ignore 2003). 2007 actually looks dull and ugly in my opinion, i love the bright sexy colours of the first games, now it's all dark and gloomy.

I have this map, and the models certainly are impressive, but the rest of the map is why it's worth downloading. It is kinda pointless though, seeing how most of the map is playable, then when you reach the large room with the two giants, people's computers are either too slow to play properly, or the people themselfs are too distracted by the pretty models and lighting.

You will notice however that I only comment when, or where one of you kids attempt to create a condition of instigating trouble with another member.
Orpheus, that's a load of pure crap. If anything, your posts bring more trouble then was ever around in the first place. The compo 23 thread is a prime example, a simple discussion turns into a flame-fest because you're senile enough to think that we had some kind of anger towards each other. You can't help but inject your smart-arsed, arrogant opinions that you love to pass as wisdom. You are no sage, you're a 50 year old prick who has nothing better to do then try and prove himself to a bunch of teenagers.

Now even though this comment is not targeted directly at me, it's enough to warrant me saying what i am. You share the same qualities as a child, always wanting to have the last say, and constantly changing your argument to make it seem you've bested people. The only thing you're ever doing is digging yourself a larger hole, one that i know quite a few of us will look forward to burying you in.

The truth of this situation is, that you are the saddest member here. We are just members of a community, trying to enjoy ourselfs, to engage in discussion, to do what we love. You on the other hand are a worthless 50 year old who's life is so sad he has to resort to trying to out class others to prove his own worth. You are no better than jimmi, in fact you are a darn site worse than him. Stop disrupting this site you sad, irritating, old prick.

Wait for it people, I predict a long post about how we have no idea what we are saying, after all ? we are just children. Don?t forget to tell us how valuable your input is to us, and how we should be learning a lesson from the great and wise old dick head that is Orpheus.

This doesn't sound so bad to me, if you flesh the events out a little better and have enough of your own work behind you, it could happen.

In my opinion, some things don't need an explanation (like the mutant frogs) if it's a quirky little mod, after all it's just for fun. I do believe you'd need some changes from the HL norm to make this work though, no overly exaggerated gore or military/scientific weapons for instance. I'm thinking slingshots, test tube/chemical grenades and a pencil-launching, home-made crossbow. :quizzical:

All I am saying is, the time for debate was before the comp was announced. Anyone whom disagrees with the result should have discussed it beforehand.

Continuing to debate with a peon, over something you have decided is going to happen is only bringing the moral down. Stop debating with Strider, and let him simmer in his own juices.
Haha, you don't seriously think Ant would let anything such as my comments affect him, do you? There is no anger between us, i was simply expressing my beliefs, Ant isn't so dumb as to think i'm attacking him. And you can't be so senile that you actually think that, or think that anyone would need your 'wise words of encouragement' over someone elses thoughts. We can have a discussion, can't we?

If all these entries turn out to be are maps with some water in them, then i won't be itching for the results. I can imagine the reviews:

-Used rain imaginatively.. you can see it!
-Has a spa in it, oh joy!

Any one of us can make a map featuring water/rain just by looking at TWHL's tutorials, there's nothing that will set entries apart other than the actual location the water is set in (in which case the compo may as well have been based on 'interesting locations').

Anyway, i've made my point, so i'll just see where this ends up, i'm leaning towards "few entries as usual and the possible cancellation of competitions".

Don't worry, unless i can think of something original the engine can actually pull off, i won't be entering. Glass had FAR more possibility seeing as you could actually make it to any shape, and utilise rotating/moving entities etc.

Anyway, my point here is not to bitch, i'm simply saying that i do not see how you can expect many entries considering the lack of options. Shutting down competitions if this turns out bad almost seems like you want to stop doing them. If you gave the same ultimatum with a competition with greater option, than i'd understand that users just don't care about compos anymore.

All you're going to see then is water in different locations. And in that case, it's the locations you will be judging, instead of what you should be focusing on - the water. You may aswell have said "Map a location and put some water in".

I don't really see how you can expect many people to get motivated when there is so little you can actually do with the water in both Source and GoldSrc. I predict a lot of very similiar entries, or very little entries at all.

in A twist on CS:S gameplay? Post #209713
Thanks for the comments people.

Daubster: Yeah, that is one of my biggest concerns, having to do it all alone. That's why i'm carefully thinking the layout through and deciding to stick these systems not too close to the bomb zone(s), but in each route into the zones so there is NO way to miss them. I'm also thinking that not every system must be disabled, 2 out of 3/3 out of 4, for instance. It will be indicated by a change of light (warning lights or something). This way, CT's will be able to disable the systems resulting in a struggle to protect the zone. Though, i imagine with limited players, and the fact that you do not respawn in CS:S this might just become downright annoying.

The best way to find out is through testing, testing, and more testing. If by the end of it, there is no way to make it work well, than it's a simple matter of converting it back to a de map.

eightballrota: Environmental hazards seem like too much for any type of CS:S match when you consider you are being hunted by people with precision weaponry, working in teams. It just wouldn't feel right in CS:S to me.

I see that exact problem sometimes, and it always occurs along where the brush is divided into triangles. Look at it with mat_wireframe and you might see it split along where the cubemaps are going iffy. As for fixing it, making it a hard group as Uragan_Lex said might work, i don't know, i've never really tried.

Hmm, i don't think an example map will be necessary, i can easily remove these features if it doesn't work out. And yes, i will have to think carefully about how to add some counter-weight for the CT's, a similar objective that disables the T's ability to complete their task.

Well, completing these objectives won't be a hard task, as simple as turning a few valves. They'd probably be equivalent to the danger faced when actually planting the bomb, and being located close to the bomb point(s) would give them a greater chance. I'll have to play around with it, but it sounds like something people will actually be keen to try.
