This is looking quite incredible.
Any extra fps I can get means I can add more pigeons, which is one of the trademarks of this place! (I put a couple of striders in the map. It was fun seeing how they tried to shoot me down but ended up killing every pigeon

I generally stick with 8 unit thick walls, then use 4, or 2 units for borders/trims/frames etc. I only really go down to 1 unit when it's absolutely necessary, neatness is paramount for me to keep interest in my maps.

Yeah, I've always worked on the smallest grid size.

Makes all that tricky VM easier. Imo.

I've dabbled in UnrealED quite a bit in the past. It's annoying working the exact opposite way of Hammer at first, but over time it becomes sort of fun. The Unreal water effects were always superior to HL's so i considered switching to that, but actually modding the game confused the fuck out of me. =P

I actually think the Turtle Rock CS:S maps are better than the Valve ones, i have no doubt the quality will be good, but... it's a zombie game, and unless it's as fun and free-roaming as DR, it'll just be a typical zombie horror game.

If you think linking to 300-400k images is 'rude', then you're just being petty. I lived with 56k internet for years, loading up images a hell of a lot larger and never complained over such a stupid thing, and definately without alluding to the idea that someone should just 'give up' because of it.

If used correctly i think fog could make for some interesting gameplay in that it sort of forces players to stick with close-ranged weaponry (i.e. shotguns and that heavy machinegun in CS:S).
A scene of a narrow railway over this foggy forest sprang to my mind
I could imagine if you could travel between the clear upper areas (the railway) and the foggy forest it would make need for different tactics. Below you can't see shit beyond 10-20 feet, but you're hidden yourself, and above you have a long-range advantage but at the cost of being highly visible.

I enjoyed the sandscroll setting, and i'm hoping this map turns out great so i can play it on Muzz's or.. wherever. The ripple effect in the second shot is really nice. You're developing quite a gift for making Goldsource still appeal to me.

I agree the last shot is a little lacking, at risk of overdoing this maps theme, i recommend 'gold pools' EVERYWHERE.

These threads are pointless unless they're a developers diary, detailing things up until the release of the map. You can promote a map without seeming arrogant, post a link in the shoutbox, and don't just SAY your map is 'unique', 'beautiful' and 'the coolest'.

I wish i had an impressive PC to post here, but i'm afraid 768mb RAM, an Athlon 2400+, a Radeon X800GTO, and ONE fan is all i have.

Good news is i'm one-third of the way saved up for a shiny new PC with two LCD's and decent cooling! Future PC > All of yours. I Should just wait for DX10 though. :(

Fog has a minor impact on the overall performance. You need proper optimisation in your map, Hint brushes, Areaportals, Func_details etc. And the Source engine is not good for very large outdoor maps, if that's what you're doing.

Unfortunately, continually pointing out injustices aren't going to do much. The truth is they happen thousands of times a day, every day, and will never really stop. You just have to get used to the fact this is the way the world is, and be thankfull if you're not getting the worst of it.
Please dont day its a discusting world. That aspect of life makes up only like 1 %.
I don't think you could not be more off with that estimate, the world is a pretty messed up place, and certain people (with enough 'power') who should be doing more, aren't really helping at all. This isn't me trying to seem all depressive and spiteful about life, this is just harsh reality that should be faced, in my opinion. Knowledge of the facts shouldn't deter you from enjoying life, either, it's a good thing to be aware.

A model would be overkill for something like this, model the fountain sure, but for water effects neat brush-work and skillful illusions should suffice quite nicely.

Distorting water-fall textures are possible with the Source engines shaders (don't ask me how, ask something who actually knows something). If you combine it with env_shooters, 'shooting' alpha-blended water sprites, it could look quite nice, though it could have quite a negative impact on multiplayer performance. But like i said, ask someone who actually knows these things.

Now i feel like trying something like this, may have a go when i get off work. :

How many other people have spirit? I wanna know if it's worth getting, because if noone else has it, theres not much point in making levels for it.
Download it and try, it isn't big, and it isn't a life-changing decision. It just modifies the HL engine and you can include all the necessary files in mod format with your map(s).
I keep hearing about it though i've never heard of it.

Tattoos area a pretty lousy form of art, unlike ruining a canvas you're actually ruining something that's always 'with' you. Something that can't be removed, and can easily be regretted. Not to mention tattoos are just plain ugly and make you look like a bit of a bogan (here anyway).
