Clipping can, and usually does created 'sub-unit verticies' or vertices off the grid. So you can clip, but then make sure the verticies are all on the grid. If they're not, VM them, which is what you should have done in the first place.

I still watch and enjoy the original ST, but by far, I prefer ST:TNG. IMO, it was the best series, albeit, the first few seasons really sucked.

Trying to finish my USS Defiant map, but I think I'll need to redesign key elements before I can move forward

By slicing to you mean the carve tool?<shivers> If you did carve, start with a new brush and use VM. Also, make shure the slime is at least 1 unit away from the grate.
